Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about Scouting and our troop. Feel free to reach out to us with your question(s) if they were not answered on this page.
What is Scouting?
Scouting is a global youth movement founded by Lord Baden-Powell in 1907. It aims to develop character, skills, and preparedness in youth through outdoor activities, community service projects, and troop meetings.
How old does my child need to be to join our troop?
Youth least 10 years old, currently in the fifth grade and register on or after March 1st
OR have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old
OR are age 11 but have not reached age 18 are all eligible to join our troop.
What do we do during troop meetings?
When we begin our troop meeting, we begin with an opening ceremony. Next, we have SIC presentations, which is a chance for the Scout In Charge of an event to present more information about their event. We then have Instructions, which is led by our Instructors. Our Instructors teach the troop a new skill. We then have sign-offs time, where senior scouts can sign-off younger scouts' requirements. After that, we usually have a fun game. Lastly, we invite our Scoutmaster for Scoutmaster's minute, and we have our closing ceremony to end the meeting. If you are intrested in joining our troop, please email us and we will invite you and give you details for our next troop meeting.
What is the Board of Review and Scoutmaster Conference?
The Scoutmaster Conference is a meeting between the Scout seeking advancement and the Scoutmaster. There is a 100% "pass" rate for this if all your requirements are completed. The Scoutmaster will ask you some questions and sign you off. Then, you go to the Board of Review (Tenderfoot and up). This will be 3 adults that will talk to you about the rank you completed and what you do outside of Scouting. This is more getting to know the adults in your troop than a test, and again most of the time you will pass it.
What is a Class A and Class B Uniform?
Class A refers to the Scouting uniform (w/ neckerchief) and should be worn at all troop meetings and various events that happens in the community. Class B is our troop's t-shirt and should be worn for events where the shirt might get dirty (sporting/hiking events, trash clean-up, etc).
How are the Scouts in our troop organized?
The Scouts are organized into patrols with a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) that runs the troop. The SPL selects the youth staff (with Scoutmaster approval) to include the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL). Currently the positions of Quartermaster, Scribe, Librarian, Historian, Chaplain’s Aide, OA Representative, Instructors, and Troop Guides and picked by the Scouts, with approval from the SPL. The Scouts are divided into patrols, each with an elected Patrol Leader (PL). The Patrol Leader selects an Assistant Patrol Leader, Grubmaster, and Quartermaster.
