Outings. Generally, our troop has several weekend activities every month. The troop program year starts in September. An Annual Plan is created at that time, and Semi-annual planning is conducted in February to refine the final six months. The annual calendar is put together is subsequently briefed to the committee and parents.
Each outing is led by the Scoutmaster or an acting Scoutmaster for the trip. This can be any registered adult leader from the troop. The SM is responsible for working with the Patrol Leaders to plan activities for the campout and is the individual in charge of the scouts during the outing. Each outing also requires an adult trip leader. The trip leader works with the SM and Outdoor Activities Coordinator in arranging reservations and permits, communicating information about the outing, monitoring RSVPs on Scoutbook, along with any required permission slips, and planning transportation. The trip leader attends the outing and is in charge of the adults.
Our Troop has a policy of “no electronics in camp.” Scouts may bring electronics with them in the vehicles but must leave them in the car or truck they rode in. The Troop and/or driver are not responsible for anything left in vehicles. The trip leader can allow exceptions on certain occasions.
For most outings, adults are also needed to help with transportation, to act as cooks (usually for the adult Patrol), and to assist in other ways, depending on the outing. It is very rewarding for both the Scout and for the Parent to be involved and attend when able.
