Fundraising

The Brooks Barracudas Summer Swim Club has a longstanding goal of ensuring membership fees do not create a barrier to participation. In an effort to keep membership fees reasonable, we have created a fundraising program which is easy to participate in.

Casino

The next Casino fundraiser will take place on March 16 & 17, 2022 at the Copper Coulee Casino in Medicine Hat. This is the Club's major fundraising initiative.

A “Casino Bond” is included in the Commitment Fee submitted as part of the registration package as a bond to guarantee casino attendance. If a family has not volunteered for (and been available to work) at least one shift at our assigned casino for that membership year (May 1 - April 30), the casino bond will not be refunded.

Casinos are assigned every 18 months and some years we will not have a casino.

A casino may also occur after our competitive season is over (after August). It is still necessary to work the casino as it is within the Membership Year.

When we know the dates of our casino, all families will be informed. You will be contacted by the Casino Coordinator via email with sign up information once this information is available.

Alberta Highway Cleanup

The Club secured a spot on the annual Alberta Highway Cleanup beginning in 2019. The highway cleanup program is held on the first or second Saturday in May every year, weather permitting.

Safety requirements

Participants must be at least 9 years of age, with at least 1 adult supervisor for every:

  • 2 child participants under 14 years old

  • 5 child participants between 14 and 18 years old

  • all participants must take safety training

SwimFest

This fun event was a major success in 2019! Our swimmers swam 2,605 laps (just over 65 km) in under two hours. The longest swim time recorded was 86 minutes and the most laps swam by a swimmer came in at 144 laps! Swimmer's collect pledges for the number of laps or total time spent swimming.
