I explored how social media impacts me and how it impacts society... here are my results.
First I started with a Social media addiction survey which tells you how much you're on social media which I can tell you is a lot
QUIZ
I've been trying to take more breaks to try not to be dependent on social media. I'm not surprised with my score but I think its a bit dramatic... or maybe I'm being called out.
STATS
When I looked on pews website I was shocked to see that You tube, Facebook , and Instagram were the top 3 social media sites. From my perspective as someone whose Gen Z my top 3 would be TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram.
Also I noticed that women dominate most social media apps, which makes sense because women love to connect and communicate with things more than men do.
My take on social media:
Social media has impacted society in more negative ways than positive ones in my opinion. Yes social media is great for connecting and finding new things, its the reason why establishments don't go out of business with the rise of food reviewers. It can impact small towns with more traffic so now people can live comfortably. People getting others opinions about jobs and giving tips on how to dominate a interview, these are all positive things that are helping out a community. Along with all of the people trying to make social media positive you're going to have the people who make it unbearable. Social media is full of insecurity, and people having no shame because they're hiding behind a screen. People have no filter because they see social media as a wall, but we all know you wouldn't be saying those things if you were in person. Social media also has declined our communicative skills with each other in the wild. People used to talk to each other, be different with styles now it all blending together, looking all grey. People are loosing their personality very rapidly. With children as young as 9 on social media seeing beauty standards and being shamed so young, Its creating kids to lose their creativity so early in life and they just want to grow up so fast now to be someone they're not.
Lessons learned:
I learned a lot about the impacts of social media and uncovered some truths about my social media usage. I'm going to be enforcing screen time breaks on myself. The STATS on the different demographics who are on social media also made sense but was eye opening about who is using certain social medias.
