Mission Statement
I am a dedicated interpreter who is an ally to the Deaf community. I know that their community is full of a rich and unique culture that I am lucky to be a part of. I am dedicated to doing everything in my power to support this community.
I realize I need to continuously improve my interpreting skills each day for I believe in providing equal communication access. The more knowledge I have of ASL, Deaf culture, American culture, and current events, the better my interpreting skills will be. I am responsible for continuing my education through interpreter training courses.
I believe in approaching interpreting situations with an open mind and changing my interetations to meet the needs of the consumer. I believe that friendly and positive interpreting experiences will create important relationships between myself and those I serve within the Deaf community. As I dedicate myself to the Deaf community, I can be a better interpreter each day.

Smart Professional Development Goals
Short term goal #1
Attain 2 internships for Spring semester by December 2024
Specific - In the interpreter training program, applying for internships is required. My goal is to find an internship that will suit me best. Where I can grow as a person and interpreter.
Measurable - I will measure progress of this goal by getting my student permit, and then applying for an internship at several locations.
Attainable - This goal is attainable because I am part of an ITP where they have a rigid schedule. They won't let any students fall behind. I will be able to attain this goal.
Relevant - This goal is relevant because it is a requirement for the interpreting program. It is also relevant because it will improve my interpreting faster than ever preparing me for the Novice exam
Timely - My timeline for this goal is to have applied to internships by the end of November. I will have my student permit by then.

Measurable - I will measure the progress of this goal by meeting with my mentors once a month for feedback. I will then register to take the Novice mock and certification exam.
Attainable - This goal is attainable because I will have graduated from the ITP, passed the Utah Knowledge Exam, completed 24 hours of workshops, and met with mentors, which have all prepared me for this goal.
