Local Information

Venue: The meeting will be held in Room OCW017 on the Ground Floor of the Ogden Centre West building next to the Rochester Building of the Department of Physics, Durham University. Coffee/tea will be served during coffee breaks on the First Floor of the Ogden Centre West.

The Department of Physics is located at the Science Site (Postal Code: DH1 3LE), off South Road.

Accommodation: Durham is a collegiate university, with a number of colleges near the Science Site (where the Meeting Venue is) which offer accommodations to visitors outside terms. Event Durham has kindly reserved a number of B&B rooms at Collingwood College during the BritGrav meeting, and booking can be made direclty with Event Durham through the Booking Webpage (in case of inquiries please contact Jessica Stott)

Lunches: The above canteens are open during the meeting (outside term) and are within walking distance from the Meeting Venue. There are pubs and Restaurants (see below) as well near the Science Site and at Town Centre (15 minutes walk).

Palatine Centre Cafe (<5 min walk from the Rochester Building)

There will be no organised conference dinner or lunch, but in addition the canteens mentioned above there are various pubs and restaruants near Science Site and in the town centre (which is within 15 minutes walk from the Science Site).

Travel information:

  • By train: Get off at Durham station, and the Science Site is within walking distance (~30 minutes).
  • By air: the closest airport to Durham is Newcastle International Airport, which is about 30 minutes drive. One can also take Metro to Newcastle Centre and then train to Durham. Airport Express (Tel: 0191 371 2352) offers taxies from and to Newcastle Airport. Other airports (Teesside, Manchester, Edinburgh) will require a longer train trip.
