[5/11/2023] Message from Bringhurst PTO: There’s a “Spring” in my step every morning!!

Hello Parents!

Hope you all had a lovely Spring Break! Here’s a list of what’s been happening at Lila Bringhurst School.

WWW: Mrs. White’s Words of Wisdom:
We are very proud of our students every day, but we are especially proud of the 42 students who were recently reclassified from English Learner to Fluent English Proficient!  Learning languages can be challenging and takes a lot of work to read, write, speak and listen fluently!  These 42 students will be receiving certificates acknowledging their hard work!

Counsellor’s Corner

Happy Healthy Kids Tips:

Rather than asking your children “How was your day?” and they always replying “Good”; try a different approach instead. Ask them “What was the best part of your day?” OR “Who did you sit with during lunch today?” OR “Who did you play with?”. It helps the child to open up and share significant parts of their day with you, thus establishing a firm channel for free communication!


Panda Express Fundraising

We held the Panda Express fundraising a day before Spring Break on April 6. We’d like to thank all those who participated in this! With your help, we were able to raise $901.53. We look forward to more active participation in our future fundraisers. Thank you!


Penny Wars Winner!

What an amazing event this was! Thanks to all those who donated loose change and imbibed a spirit of healthy competition among the kids! We are glad to announce the winner of our Penny Wars is Ms. To’s Kindergarten class with a whopping 23,104 points! They won otter pops and $100 worth of classroom supplies!


Kids Against Hunger Packing Event

Thank you for your participation and donation at the Lila Bringhurst Kids Against Hunger Packing Event on 4/20. It had a great turnout and we hope this will become an annual tradition. Please take a look at the video created for us.

Hello Parents!

It’s March! Hope you all adjusted the time in your clocks by going ahead an hour! Here’s a list of what’s been happening in the past month at Lila Bringhurst School. 


Penny Wars

Thank you for your support on the first-ever BLAZER Penny Wars! We've collected more than $1,000 worth of coins in the first two weeks, which is amazing. As a reminder, Penny Wars will end on March 24 and prizes will be given to highest points from each grade and GRAND prize for overall winner.


Panda Express Fundraiser

Place your order for pickup or delivery on Thursday, April 06!

PTO Officer Election

If you are interested in getting more involved with the Bringhurst community, working closely with teachers and Principal White, and helping create amazing experiences for your children, then we highly encourage you to consider running for Bringhurst PTO officers. Bringhurst Elementary PTO elections will be held at the PTO meeting on April 18, 2023 at the school. We welcome all nominations and will strive to create a diverse and balanced roster of applicants that accurately represents our school’s demographics. Additional Funds Transferred to School

At the February PTO general meeting, members approved to transfer additional $15,000 to the school to fund the teachers, school counselor, and the library. This brings the total funds transferred to school to $30,000 in the current school year.


Book Fair Success!

We saw an overwhelming response to the Book Fair, held in the school library. It was very inspiring to see children from all grades bring their parents to explore the world of books and buy what they liked. We are very happy to inform you that with the funds raised we are able to enhance our Bringhurst library book collections which are beneficial to all the students. Thank you!


Skyzone Fundraising

With your continued cooperation to raise funds for the school, we were able to raise $100. Skyzone was generous and decided to match the amount so in total we were able to raise $200 for our school. Thank you to all those who participated.


Mad Science

Mad Science is coming to Bringhurst Elementary! It is a 7-week After School Program that is scheduled from Mar 21- May 9, 2023. This is open for students from Grade 1-3, held in the school campus itself every Tuesday from 3-4pm. Early bird deadline to register is Mar 14. Hello Parents!


Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Here’s a list of what’s been happening in the past month at Lila Bringhurst School.

Lunar New Year Celebrations

Students and teachers got together on Jan 25th to usher in the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit! It was a fun day with a plethora of activities like origami, craft stick puzzles, long jump rope, etc and fascinating performances like Dragon Dance and Kung-fu organized by volunteers. A special Thanks to CIPCF for sponsoring this event and for all the volunteers who contributed time and energy to make it so special!


MOD Pizza Fundraising

Our January MOD Pizza fundraiser was a big success! With your cooperation, we were able to raise $316. Our sincere thanks to all those who participated! 


Public Service Saturday

A HUGE shoutout to all families who turned up on Saturday (01/28) to clean our school campus. We picked up a lot of random litter in and around the campus and filled up our bin! Thank you once again! Take a look at the pictures on our website. 


SkyZone Fundraiser 

Thanks to the families who participated in the Sky Zone Fundraiser from 2/6-2/12. $100, which is 25% of the proceeds, will go towards funding the school. We hope you had fun at Sky Zone. Don't forget to post pictures on our Facebook page. 


Counselor’s Corner

From 2/6 to 2/9, we asked the kids to match our counseling week themes! We've been focusing on helping our students get valuable support that will allow them to think about big problems and create their own solutions. We want them to know that we always have their back and they can come to us whenever they feel tangled with their emotions. All the support from parents will certainly help them aim high and achieve their dreams! To connect with our counselor, please email jwisefield@fusdk12.net. 


Scholastic Book Fair

At the end of this month, Bringhurst Elementary will be hosting our first ever Book Fair (link here)! We encourage all parents to actively participate and instill an interest and love of reading in our children. Scholastic will give back a portion of the proceeds to the school when you shop. Together, we can and we will reach our goal of 1600 books!


The event will be held at the school library and will involve helping students select and pay for their books, with some possible help with set up/clean up as needed.  If you are interested in helping, please use the link below to sign up.

Penny War

1-2-3-4 I Declare a BLAZER Penny War! We will be kicking off Penny War Feb 27-March 24! The rules are simple, each classroom will have a jar to collect coins, each coin equals a certain point and the most points win! Prizes will be given to highest points from each grade and GRAND prize for overall winner. More details during our PTO meeting on 2/21.


Fremont Debate Academy

Bringhurst Elementary is hosting an 8-week long free competitive debating program for 4th - 6th graders, starting Feb 27 to May 8. The deadline to enroll is Feb 20. There is limited enrollment on a first come first serve basis, of around 20 students, prioritizing 5th and 6th graders, while 4th graders will be placed on waitlist. The sessions will be held in Room C-226 from 4-5:30pm. Parents are responsible for picking up and dropping off their kids on time. The sessions will be conducted by 5th grade teacher Ms. Tsung, who can be reached at ktsung@fusdk12.net if you have questions. CIPCF 更新#1：农历新年庆祝活动
用兔年即将到来了！很高兴今年CIPCF 将重启现场庆祝活动。1月 25 日（星期三）Bringhurst 校园内将举办一场精彩绝伦的文化教育活动。本次活动开放给所有学生。 我们需要义工家长的帮忙。 如需您想要了解更多信息，请参加在 1 月 10 日星期二晚上 7 点举行的 CIPCF 大会，或联系 info@cipcf.org。

CIPCF 更新 #2：Bringhurst 课后合唱团

Hello Parents!

 

Happy New Year! PTO would like to extend best wishes to all for a happy and healthy new year. We’re so excited to see all of the children, teachers and staff back at school after a long, well deserved break. Here is a look at what is happening at our school as we kick off 2023 together! 

Happening Now

WWW: Mrs. White’s Words of Wisdom:

This month, we are focusing on using positive self talk. Every morning, I will say an affirmation and students should repeat it. Research shows that we can train our brain with positive thoughts! However, I would love to hear positive affirmations from our kids. If students would like to share a positive affirmation with me, I'd love to hear it. Write it on a post-it note or stop into the office at recess/lunch and write it on one of our post-it notes. I will read some of the positive affirmations we receive this month in our morning announcements.


Spelling Bee winners: Daniel L. and Ethan Y. 

After 12 rounds of competitions which took 2 hours, Daniel L. and Ethan Y. from 5th grade won the first Bringhurst Spelling Bee and will be representing our school at the district spelling bee at Weibel this month. Congratulations to Daniel, Ethan, and all the participating students. 


Blazer Best Tickets

In January, Bringhurst Elementary School launched blazer best tickets, a system to recognize students for demonstrating core values - kind, safe, responsible. This system was created by the Positive Behavior and Interventions Supports (PBIS) team consisting of different teachers, including counselor, science, and PE. Check out the Blazer Best Tickets video created by Ms. Tsung and watch it together with your kids.


Additional PTO Funds Approved for School Purchases

We’re thrilled to share that on top of the $2000 approved in November, PTO members approved an additional $13,000 to the school in the December general meeting to purchase supplies and items in need from the request list. Thanks to all members who made donations or are contributing to the school in one way or another.

Public Service Saturday

CIPCF Updates #1: Lunar New Year Celebration

The Rabbit Year is quickly approaching. This school year, CIPCF is happy to bring back on-site celebrations. There will be onsite cultural education activities during the school day at Bringhurst on Wednesday, January 25th, open to all students. Parent volunteers are needed. To learn more, please join the CIPCF General Meeting on Tuesday, January 10 at 7pm, or reach out to info@cipcf.org.


CIPCF Updates #2: Bringhurst Afterschool Choir

We are excited to share that you can now sign-up for the Bringhurst Afterschool Choir, which is being sponsored by CIPCF! The choir is open to all Bringhurst students 1st-6th grade. Students will learn both Mandarin and English songs. Pinyin will be provided for students who are not familiar with the Chinese words. The practice sessions will be held on Wednesdays Feb. 1, 2023  - May 31, 2023 from 1:15 PM - 2:45 PM, with a final performance in June. CIPCF is taking care of space rental and insurance costs. The remaining fee is $250 per student, covering the entire 17 practice sessions and final performance. Fees will be paid directly to Tri City Nightingales, a non-profit organization. CIPCF is aiming to accommodate 40-80 students, depending on the # of parents willing to volunteer to supervise students while the choir director teaches the class. Accordingly, sign-up is a first-come, first-serve basis, except that priority will be given to students whose parent commits to volunteering to supervise the students during the practice sessions. Sign-ups will remain open until the choir slots are filled, or Monday, January 30, whichever is earlier. Please see the flyers here for a link to sign-up.


Math Club Updates: Kangaroo Competition and the Multiplication Frenzy Class

The International Math Kangaroo Competition is happening after school on March 16, 2023.  This 1 hour and 15 minute problem-solving contest is open to students grades 1-12. Cost is $21 paid directly to Math Kangaroo upon registration. You will need the code "blazers2023" to register for Bringhurst. For more information, check out the Kangaroo page on the Bringhurst Math Club website at bit.ly/LBkangaroo.


PTO is also excited to sponsor the Math Club after-school class: Multiplication Frenzy! It will be an 8 session enrichment class for 3rd/4th graders after school on campus on Wednesdays from 1:15-2:15 pm.  Space is limited.  Please see the class description and sign-up information at  bit.ly/LBfrenzy

PTO Funds Approved for School Purchases

At the November PTO general meeting, the majority of the members who were present approved $2,000 for the school to purchase supplies and items in need from the request list. Thanks to all members who made donations or are contributing to the school in one way or another. We wouldn’t be where we are without each one of you. 


In December’s public PTO meeting, we will be approving additional money for transfer from the PTO account to the School.

Appreciation Luncheon

On Friday 12/16, PTO sponsored an appreciation luncheon to celebrate an incredible year of 2022 for all Bringhurst teachers and staff, to appreciate their courage, patience and commitment to understand, motivate and inspire the students and the community. PTO would also like to thank the parents who donated drinks and desserts or volunteered at this event. PTO is here for the Bringhurst community and we look forward to another great year in 2023. Counselor’s Corner

Children thrive on consistency, structure and predictability. Develop a morning routine that looks the same each day to help you and your kids, get out the door with a smile! This month, students are focusing on “How big is my problem?” and “Good decision making” skills. They are learning when to approach an adult for help and what they can work out on their own. Did you know 12/5-12/9 was National Influenza vaccination week?

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recognizes this week to highlight the importance of flu vaccinations. The CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older in the United States should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Please check with your health care provider. Flu vaccinations are readily available at local pharmacies, Costco and Bay Area Community Health (BACH).


MOD PIZZA Family Eat Out

Fundraise your heart out and raise some dough! Join MOD PIZZA at the Fremont Hub to support the Bringhurst PTO! Hello Parents!


Hope you and your family have been having a great school year so far! Bringhurst PTO is excited to have you here and to support the school together. Please check out below on the successes from our past events, the upcoming activities on campus, and other PTO announcements.

Past Events

Halloween Trunk or Treat Fun

Bringhurst PTO hosted Trunk or Treat on October 28th for Halloween. It was so much fun seeing all the parents and children dress up in a variety of costumes and be a part of this awesome event. Thank you for showing your enthusiasm and making this event a roaring success! Check out the event photos on the PTO website. The Best Decorated Prize was bagged by the Pac-Man family who received a $25 gift card and a free birthday marquee! Congrats! 


Halloween Parade

It was so much fun seeing all the children and staff dress up in a variety of costumes and walk around waving at the parents who turned up in great numbers to greet their kids. We encourage you to share the pictures on our Bringhurst PTO Facebook Group!


Chipotle Fundraiser Success

The Dine to Donate at Chipotle on Nov 1 was a success!  Thank you to everyone who supported us through this fundraising evening.  With your help, we raised $561.  These funds will be extremely useful towards supporting Bringhurst students and staff. 


Our next event will be on 1/11/2023 at Mod Pizza in Fremont Hub. Stay tuned for more details.

Counselor’s Corner

With the time change this month, make sure your kids are getting enough sleep. APA recommends at least 9-12 hours of quality shut-eye time per night. Set a bedtime routine so it is easier for the little ones to wind down and fall asleep. Reading a bedtime story together grows your bond, sparks their imagination, improves their emotional intelligence and so much more! To connect with our counselor, please email Ms. Wisefield.

Is your child’s birthday coming up soon? Celebrate it on Bringhurst’s digital marquee! Register via this link and donate $20 (tax-deductible) to display your child’s name there for the entire week. The signup form is also accepting December birthdays as part of the program’s beta.

[10/11/2022] Message from Bringhurst PTO: Happy Harvest Season

Hi Bringhurst Parents,


Happy October to you all and welcome to the members who just joined us. We’re excited to have you here and to support the school together. As we get into the harvest season, we’d like to share some successes from our past events and remind you of what's coming up on campus.


September Membership Drive Result

Our first membership drive which ended on September 16 received great results - a huge thank you to all families who joined PTO! The winner goes to Ms. To’s Kindergarten Class A132 with more than 70% family sign-ups! As a result, a prize of $50 has been awarded to the classroom. For the classrooms that didn’t win this time, stay tuned for another membership donation opportunity later this year. Thank you all again for your participation.


Panda Express Fundraiser Success

Thank you to everyone for sharing and participating in the Panda Express family eat out night - together, we raised a final tally of $2006.64 for PTO to contribute to our school community! Thanks to those of you who shared with your distant friends and family; Panda Express shared that donations came from the following states: PA, MO, TX, NC, GA, WA, VA, MI, and CA. This is such an amazing turnout so a huge thank you to you all!  


Our next Dine to Donate event will be at Chipotle (44029 Osgood Rd #106, Fremont, CA 94539) on Tuesday, November 1 from 5-9 PM. Orders can either be made online with code: 8F2VDVZ or in person (bring our flier or make sure to let the staff know that you are there for the fundraiser). The code cannot be used at any other Chipotle locations and cannot be used for delivery. We know that there were some crowds at the Osgood Panda location, so consider ordering earlier or later within the 5-9 PM window.

Halloween Trunk or Treat

Bringhurst PTO is excited to be hosting Trunk or Treat this year on Friday, October 28th from 5pm to 6:15pm in the school's parking lot (flier here). 

What is Trunk or Treat? Parents and Staff will decorate their trunks OR tables and children will walk from trunk to table to get Treats! The best decorated trunk or Table will receive a PRIZE! We have limited space for decorated cars, so we're adding some sections for table set up as well. If you plan to donate, a treat drop box will be available starting on 10/12 in the school office. Please sign up here and help Bringhurst put together a memorable Trunk or Treat for our children! We ask that you keep this to just Bringhurst students, staff and their families to ensure we have enough treats for everyone! Thank you for your continued support! We appreciate you!

Hi Bringhurst families,


Welcome to Bringhurst PTO, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting our students and teachers, encouraging parent involvement, and raising funds to supplement and enrich the educational experience for all students at Bringhurst Elementary School. We’re excited for the school year and looking forward to getting to know you in the near future.

Membership Drive
