All incoming percussion students join our Percussion Ensembles. The ensemble is a chamber group dedicated to develop the skills and musicality of percussion students, in addition to assisting our concert band groups with their concert and festival music.
All percussionists are in the same class, but are divided into two groups based on skills and experience:
Advanced Percussion Ensemble: Students must audition to be considered part of the advanced group. Advanced percussionists help the Symphonic Band with concert and festival music. The advanced group frequently acquires superior ratings at solo and ensemble and other festivals. Individuals serious about percussion studies after high school, or students who just love music and percussion ought to consider the advanced group.
Intermediate Percussion Ensemble: Any incoming students with percussion experience may register for this class. Students without experience, either on other instruments or taking percussion for the first time, are welcome to take the class but must meet with the director the first week of school to establish a contract for facilitated development. Students in intermediate percussion help the concert band with festival or concert music. Intermediate percussion is a great place for students working towards advanced percussion, students who are generally interested in percussion or music, or students who want to try a more rigorous musical experience.
