"Thoughts and Prayers"... "Time heals all wounds"...
These and other platitudes can be all that well-intentioned friends and family can think to say when faced with your intense pain and difficulty adjusting.
Grief can be experienced in many situations, such as the death of a loved one, a divorce or breakup, retirement, physical disability, graduation, or job loss. It is not an event, but a process that goes on for such a long time. It can really help to talk to someone about what you are going through, without having to guard your words in order to protect those who care about you.
Two effective ways to do this are in individual therapy, in which you and your thoughts and feelings are central; and in a group of others going through a similar process. If you find that it's getting tough going it alone, seek help to move your process forward and find a way to enjoy life again.
