Could not get any rock samples due to the lower falls being closed (ice!)
Minnehaha Falls' geology features hard Platteville Limestone overlying soft St. Peter Sandstone, creating its iconic plunge; glacial meltwater from the last Ice Age carved the gorge, with the falls retreating upstream over millennia as the softer sandstone erodes, undercutting the resistant limestone above, a process similar to St. Anthony Falls.
