Hello Families!
In the music room we focus on developing tuneful, beatful, and artful musicians. The goal is that by the time they leave my music program, they will have a solid musical understanding and become lifelong appreciators of the musical arts.
We do this by engaging in music making, performing, and listening with our voices and other instruments.
We also explore the elements of music so that we can better explain and understand the music we hear, sing and play. These elements include: Beat, Rhythm, Melody, Dynamics. Form, Tempo, Articulation, and Music History.
4th-5th grade students will focus on their first band instrument, the recorder! We use the recorder karate system to teach note reading and proper technique at all levels.
6th grade students will have the opportunity to join band! Joining is easier and more affordable than you may think. Instrument rental programs help make quality instruments accessible. Rehearsals are during the school day to eliminate scheduling conflicts. Elementary students will be eligible to register for band during the end of their 5th grade year.
Each performance fulfills a requirement for the performance standard in music and is therefore a graded performance with attendance required. An alternative assessment is available if necessary, however, attendance at the performance is strongly encouraged for the most successful opportunity for your student.
