"The Letter to Nex brought tears to my eyes and was a perfect encapsulation of why I went to the Transgender Day of Visibility Gallery Event. I could not be there for Nex, but I can try to be there for Mack, for Lucas, for Magnus, for Alexi, for Preston. It is essential for The Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice, and especially allies like myself, to be visible in our support for our transgender friends...and more importantly for any transgender individuals who feel alone, unsupported and vulnerable. You belong. " - Jeff Schneider
"I’d like to express my gratitude for the gallery walk because it gave me the opportunity to exemplify my trans journey through art, as I’ve always dreamed of doing since I was a child devoted to art and writing as a future career. This event provided a platform of expression to us trans people during a time of repression, and allowed me to view a multitude of other people’s portrayals of the trans experience both through art and literature. In addition, the environment of this gallery bridged us together as transgender creatives who could relate our shared emotions of a similar yet broad experience through our love of art and writing, which is a profound example of the human experience that many of us, otherwise, feel alienated from."

"The Transgender Day of Visibility Gallery at the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice was a moving experience for me. While the artwork and poetry were poignant, the opportunity to hear some of the artists speak was especially meaningful. Mack Harsell and the other artists spoke from their hearts and shared their life experiences and why the opportunity to share their art was important to them. I found the speeches to be brave and inspirational and events such as this give the community access to meet and learn in ways that are not easily accessible elsewhere. I truly believe the way to full acceptance and support lies in education and understanding. Events such as this allow the community to have access to learning about and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. The Bayard Rustin Center is a beacon in the community that advocates for and supports the LGBTQ+ community in so many ways from hosting a daily safe space to regular events that welcome the community to be together and support us all in learning." - Erin Harsell
