Healthy Brain Development:
Our brains continue developing until we turn 25 years old, and our frontal lobe is the last section of our brain to develop fully.
90% of brain development happens before we turn 5, and the brain is constantly fine-tuning and creating synapses needed for higher-level thinking and skills later on in life.
Stages of Cognitive Development:
Sensorimotor: typically occurs when children are 18 months to 24 months old, results in object permanence
Preoperational: occurs from ages 2 to 7 years old, results in symbolic thought
Concrete operational: ages 7 to 11 years old, results in logical thought
Formal Operational: this is the final stage and lasts throughout adulthood, results in scientific reasoning
