I have always had an interest in engineering, always trying to build and fix things, from helping my dad in the garage, replacing the engine in a truck, and finding ways to solve problems with what items I have nearby. While I haven't decided on a specific field, the five I have the most interest in are mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, aeronautical, and aerospace engineering. My parents are most responsible for sparking my interest in engineering. They are both engineers and my dad used to create his own contraptions to solve problems. I realized that engineering was something that I wanted to pursue in the sixth grade, when I took an engineering course over the summer.
I have taken a few summer classes with some involvement of engineering. From using Lego to solve problems, to coding websites and adding simple programs to robots. I have enrolled in the Engineering program at the James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. I am taking Calculus AB as well as AP language for my Math and English classes, and will continue to take AP and higher level classes to help me in my future career. I am also trying to find colleges with a good engineering program, as well as being well funded.
I am in my first year of Marching Band for my school, which gives me the advantage of learning to work as a team and made me strive to do better so that our band would be the best in competitions (We have already won one this year). I used to do programs at the College of Southern Maryland for engineering during the summer, but stopped during COVID-19, and never went back after getting a job. Currently, I work in retail, at a thrift store where profits go to the parent company, a non-profit, to fund their projects in helping adults with disabilites, both physical and mental. When at my job, I use a lot of physical labor, so I am used to having to lift many heavy things for long periods of time.
After graduating from high school, my plan is to go to college for an engineering major. I do not plan to go right to the workforce, or to go into the military. If I was unable to get into a college for some reason, I would likely go to a trade school.
After achieving my goal of pursuing a career in Chemical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical engineering, I would try to use my knowledge in the field to help the community with innovative technologies that will help people around the world. I hope to have a positive impact on the world, and create some technologies to help bring stability to the world, and to advance research, and make my own research. If my plan of starting a business works, I can create jobs as well as technologies to help my community.
