Mini Project: Multimodal Journey Presentation
This is a mini project that is completed at the beginning of unit 2 to explore the essential question, What can we learn as we journey through life? and to allow space for students to make personal connections to this big idea before diving into the text sets. The mini project has been adapted here to include two options: students can discuss their own journey (the focus of the original project), OR they can interview a family member about a journey that they have experienced. For both options, students are encouraged to think about the intentionality of their language choices.Â
This poem was sourced to bring in more culturally and linguistically responsive curriculum resources to Unit 2 of the StudySync curriculum. I used to present students with two options for this poem: they could analyze the original Spanish, or they could analyze the English translation. Now, I have adapted this activity so that all students are presented with both versions of the poem. They can annotate and analyze one or both. The analysis questions on the back then prompt bilingual students to analyze how the meaning of the poem changes when it is translated into English. (Source: The Poetry Foundation)
