Congrats to Kevin and Chris for making it to the final round! Best of luck to you both, and make sure to update the spreadsheet with the results when you're done.
We're down to the final four! I did not randomize this time, as there was only one option that led to non-repeat opponents which we said we'd prioritize where we could within a given ranking. Everyone already has one loss, so it's single elimination from here on out!
You can find your pairings available at the usual place, same with the instructions. I'll nudge folks if you don't set up your game by Thursday, Jan 29.
We're down to six players now, and the last few rounds! You can find your pairings available at the usual place, as are instructions. I'll nudge folks if you don't set up your game by Tuesday, Jan 20.
Down to the top 10! Congrats folks for making it this far! Pairings available at the usual place, as are instructions. Expect a nudge if you don't set up your game by Sunday, Jan 11.
Thanks for a fast round! We're now at 17 players, with a bye randomly awarded to Dgutermuth. Find your pairings and set up instructions in the usual places.
Expect nudges on Wednesday (Dec 31) if you haven't started your game by then.
Let's get into round 4! We're down to 27 players, with a bye randomly awarded to wildes this time. Find your pairings and set up instructions in the usual places.
Expect nudges on Tuesday (Dec 16) if you haven't started your game by then.
Onto round three! We're now at 39 players, meaning one bye was randomly awarded to Lauriew917. Everyone else can find their pairings in the same Google sheet that we've been using: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1824tjLmDpTRsMzsKAKQ6BYHCqWJETxbJ12TRi_vaNjY/edit?usp=sharing. If you need to reference the instructions for setting up the game, you can find them here.
Please start your games as quickly as possible; you'll get nudges on Sunday if your game hasn't started by then.
Congrats on finishing round 1! It took us just shy of three weeks, so not a bad start. If we can get tables set up a little faster this round, we can probably get closer to the two week target.
You can find your round 2 pairings in the same Google sheet that we've been using: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1824tjLmDpTRsMzsKAKQ6BYHCqWJETxbJ12TRi_vaNjY/edit?usp=sharing. If you need to reference the instructions for setting up the game, you can find them here. Please start your games as quickly as possible.
Since I got a few questions in the first round about how the pairings were created, I'll go into a bit more detail this time around. I assigned the four players without BGA Premium to tables 2-1, 2-2, 2-14, and 2-15 (two Ws and two Ls). I then generated a random number (using =RAND()) and repasted the values into the cells (so that I could sort them). I assigned the winners from top to bottom, and then bottom to top, to games 2-1 through 2-13. I then did the same with everyone who lost their first game for tables 2-14 through 2-26. While not relevant in this round, in future rounds we will do our best to prevent folks from having a rematch, if there are other folks available at the same record.
After discussion with the AGMs, we will make a change to the format for future rounds to keep the tournament going - it is not a relevant change for this next round. Instead of assigning byes anytime there are an odd number of players at a record, we will match those players with folks at a similar record. I've updated the tournament format page with this change: https://sites.google.com/view/bpa-pbem/CAR-2025.
