Metabolic engineering enables the rewiring of naive metabolism to overproduce both native and non-native metabolites. Synthetic microbiota can also function as model systems to further out understanding of the composition, stability and functional activities of the microbial ecosystems. Therefore, our aim is to 1) engineering single microorganism for chemical production, and 2) engineering the microbiota with targeted functions.
