The hair on this fetal calf was primarily black. Hair on bovine species cover almost the whole body. This hair is composed of compressed keratinized epithelial cells.
Bovines are considered ungulates, meaning they walk on their "tip toes". Their hooves are composed of keratin and have an outer epidermal layer and an inner dermal layer. Inside the hoof are Laminae which are folded tissue layers that help to hold to hoof wall to the distal phalanx.Â
The skin consists of three main layers.
