Bonds, Obligations, Debts, and Warrants:
Appearance: Blue is tall and lean, with steel-gray hair and large expressive brown eyes. His brown skin recalls his heritage - first Paradisian, and before that, Maori - and in his opinion, has betrayed him by starting to show wrinkles in his brow and around his eyes. He dresses simply, with clothes that fit loosely yet are tailored to fit in just the right way, even when those clothes are board shorts or flower-print shirts. He cannot be made to ‘dress up’ for business, and in fact his sheer presence can make his Paradisian wardrobe feel as sinister as any black suit if he’s in that kind of mood.
Personality: Generous in friendship and ruthless in enmity, Sechelei Mufyx is legendary for his larger-than-life personality and unpredictable sense of humor. He is outspoken and affectionate, quick to laugh, and quick to make friends… or friendly acquaintances, at least. He is crafty, and slow to trust, so those who enter his circle - those who earn his trust with his children, they are his true friends. And anyone who breaks that trust is punished, publicly, so that their example will remind others that Big Blue may never be crossed. He doesn’t just play to win - he plays to stop you from trying a second time.
Strengths, Talents, Abilities: His mutation is Echolocation, which works much better in water than on land in terms of range, but Blue is still capable of walking through the dark without stubbing his toes. His range underwater is 100 meters; out of water is three. He is a cunning businessman and wise in the ways of criminal enterprise. He knows how to use a gun, but hasn’t had to do so himself in quite a long time. He fancies himself quite charming - and to be honest, he is.
Weaknesses and Fears: His greatest weakness is his children, but the last person to prey on that was shown the door… to an airlock, so others have found other places to apply pressure when trying to get a better deal. Outside of his immediate family, he has an aversion to making emotional attachments, but he seems to have a lot of affection for a particular repeat lover from his home planet. He is an ordinary human for the most part, with ordinary weaknesses. He wears reading glasses, and is getting deeper into middle age, which has brought him a few weaknesses in terms of vanity.
History: He’s known by many names, Big Blue and Smurf the most common among them. He started out as a have-nothing, know-nothing pearl-diver from the Reach. Today he has his own satellite, the hub of black market traffic in his part of the Coalition. If folks need a thing, he can get it. And if folks cross him, he can get them.
Sechelei came from Paradise, and by hook and crook got off that planet with his mother Lehiwa in tow. Between her cunning and his, they turned a smuggling racket into a fleet of smugglers, then went bigger still. He was honorable, and just as far as that went, but had no tolerance for betrayal or idiocy. One led to the airlock, the other to unemployment, if the fool could at least keep their mouth shut.
He had his mother with him, and lovers when he wanted them, but Blue wanted a family of his own. He contracted with two women, years apart, to bear his children, then set them up to live out their days in luxury elsewhere. Ruru and Atarangi have had a variety of tutors and nurses over the years, giving them a balanced education. While they don’t have to follow in their father’s footsteps, he hopes at least one of them will take the reins.
When Heritage Terminal came online, he was one of the first settlers - but he wanted more freedom than being a ‘citizen’ could offer. His people found him an abandoned science station, and he had it rebuilt to his specs, then relocated to the asteroid belt in Heritage’s system. Officially it’s a private “junk yard,” unofficially it’s a haven for black market racketeering and a waystation for unsavory types who would find the reception too hot in Heritage Terminal. Waimarie is the jewel in his crown, and he leaves it rarely, preferring his palace to anything another planet or station might have to offer.
