We are a team that uses social leadership to establish goals and achieve success.
First, we use scrum which means that we use principles of social leadership where each person manages themselves, rather than having a standard corporate ladder. This also allows our members to take on projects in all aspects of robotics, rather than just being confined to coding or building projects. Our team's accomplishments have been earned through the kids leading the way, instead of our coaches. This allows us to learn in a more hands-off approach, preparing us better for the real world. By avoiding a hierarchical system, we are able to learn from each other. Our older members are always eager to give the newer members opportunities or teach them skills which helps ensure sustainability throughout our team. This also makes each person valuable but also that the team will not be reliant on one individual.
Second, using social leadership and ensuring that each person's voice is heard at meetings allows us to set more realistic goals and reach out to more organizations. Through this, we have been able to and will continue to partner with Pittsburgh non-profits and engage with our community successfully. This model has been proven to keep members for longer and for them to stay more engaged with their work. Our team has had many successful ideas and become more creative through meetings where the whole team is focused on a big project or choosing which smaller activities to assist in.
Third, we are part of USC Robotics, Upper St. Clair High School's Robotics Club. This ensures that each action we take helps fuel the robotics environment in our school and has more impact overall.
