The mechanics may be updated at any point for any reason the mods deem fit.
Boreal Echoes uses a lightweight ttrpg system based off a few different OSR games. These rules are primarily a hack of The Black Hack 2e by David Black, with elements taken from: Knave 2e, OSE, Runecairn, and Symbaroum. I will refer to the system, lovingly, as Polarhack, to help differentiate between the system, the RP group, and the setting.
Polarhack was designed with the following goals in mind:
Ease of playing, meaning the speed of play is quick but casual, minimizing the amount of things that must be remembered. Complex mechanics are reserved for out of combat resolution.
Player Creativity, providing great freedom as well as guidelines for those who work better from a starting point.
Light Rolling, to avoid slowing the pace or adding needless complications.
Player Facing, as opposed to GM facing, so that even combat requires little input from a GM. This ensures that the speed of an RP is not solely dictated by a GM's availability.
