In The Voice of the Past, Paul Thompson emphasises that oral history is built around people. Words used are spoken and owned. Applying the same tools of interviews and recordings, "verbatim playwrights pride themselves on telling stories that aren't being told elsewhere and they often describe what they are doing with phrases such as 'hidden histories', 'giving voice to the voiceless', or 'writing from the ground up'..." (Wake, 2010. p.8).
