Hi, I am Barbara Bonechi !
I am an enthusiastic and super passionate experimental petrologist and volcanologist dedicated to advance the current knowledge of volcanic processes before and during eruptions to improve hazard assessment and risk mitigation.
My fascination with fossils, minerals, and volcanoes began in childhood, leading me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences at Sapienza University of Rome in Italy, where I come from. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a passion for experimental petrology, where I learned to recreate volcanic products and simulate magmatic processes in the laboratory.
I continued my education by pursuing a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences in Rome, during which I significantly expanded my knowledge. These experiences enabled me to actively participated in international conferences, build a global network of collaborations, and have access to leading research laboratories worldwide.
Currently, I am a Research Associate in experimental petrology and volcanology at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Manchester. My work on the 4DVOLC project involves studying magma storage and ascent in volcanic systems using time-resolved high-pressure and high-temperature X-ray tomographic experiments, as well as the use and development of a new state-of-the-art experimental apparatus that will open new frontiers in volcanology studies.
