After a good sleep in session, Lily and I headed around the corner to Benji's to have brunch. We did have to wait, but we scored a table outside so that was a win! We had delightful coffees and delicious breakfasts.
Once we finished breakfast, we headed to the local grocery store to pick up some things for dinner. We had a food tour that afternoon so we knew we wouldn't be super hungry come supper time.
Pro tip: check out the grocery store! It was fascinating to see how the Dutch do their grocery shopping.
Breakfast at Benji's
We dropped our grocery haul off at the boat and then got ready for our food tour. I selected a tour from Eating Europe. They offer tours in so many European cities. Our guide was phenomenal, the food was fantastic, and we left stuffed! Getting a chance to explore Amsterdam through food was a great experience.
At the conclusion of our food tour, we decided to explore a little bit on our way home. We popped into a toy store to pick up a little something for my niece and nephew and then headed into the post office. I like to do something that may be considered fairly routine for locals to get a taste of what everyday life is like for them, so I make it a point to get a postage stamp from every country I visit.
Once we arrived back at the houseboat, we played some cards and watched TV. It felt good to sit back and relax after a heavy walking day. We did venture out to have a drink at Feed. We enjoyed a cocktail, a humorous sign, and a friendly waiter. When we were done, we called home and then turned on the Olympic opening ceremony.
At one point, my cousin and I looked at each other and we came to the conclusion that we'd never be in our 20s, in Amsterdam, watching the Olympics again. It was such a surreal moment that we really made sure to pause and take it all in. We were some lucky ladies!
