A month of new games and gamers

We had a great turn out at games nights this month, and several new members joined our ranks.  I also got some extra sneaky games in with new and old friends.

We played 32 different games at games nights in July a total of 45 times with our top 9 being in the image.  We had 3 two player games make the top 9 this month, which is unusual for us.  Hard Line is one of my personal favourites with it's thinky twist on connect 4 / tic tac toe / naughts and crosses.  Only a few were produced and they turn up on Ebay sometimes - or you can play the version Gigamic came out with called Quarto.   Our theme this month was Pathfinding/Discovery - which I think is why Tsuro is so high up our chart.

Sweet Jenny was new to the club this month and has proved popular - I'm still to get a game in, but I'm super looking forward to it.

I also visited the Medway Area Gamers in Maidstone for one of their all day gaming events.  Less than an hour and a half from Penge East and a breakfast at Weatherspoons, we were ensconced in a lovely private room at a pub with access to the pub garden - which has it's own pet rabbit!

I played Hard Line, Mascarade, G.R.I.M. Inc, Diamant, 9 Lives, Mamma Mia!, Cabanga! Switchbacks and Courtisans with only a stop for a quick lunch and lots of chat. Of the games new to me, 9 Lives was a lovely trick taking game with Picasso-esque art and reminded me (in game play) a little of Wizard.  Mamma Mia saw us building pizza and remembering what ingredients were in a central pile that hadn't been already claimed by other players.  Cabanga gave me 6 nimmt vibes with it's card shedding mechanic and the desire to not give other players the opportunity to give you more cards and Switchbacks in it's beautiful little packaging had you trying to build number runs without giving away too many points - but was the number you needed still in the game?!  Honorable mention goes to the stupid death of the Flat Earther on a tourist cruise to see the edge who fell over the very low guardrail while suffering from severe ball ache during our game of G.R.I.M. Inc.

I'm delighted to report that we have sold over 30 tickets for our September full day of gaming and we are starting to run out of space, so if you are still pondering or on the fence, you need to let me know you want tickets ASAP to hold your space.
