6th Grade Elective Courses
Flight and Space/Magic of Electrons/Energy and the Environment:
Flight and Space: The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through Flight and Space. During this unit, students delve into the history of flight and space, discover the science behind aeronautics, and explore traveling and living in space. Students are then challenged to use their knowledge to design, build, and test an airfoil.
Magic of Electrons: Through hands-on projects, students explore electricity, the behavior and parts of atoms, and sensing devices. They learn knowledge and skills in basic circuitry design and examine the impact of electricity on the world around them.
Energy and the Environment: In Energy and the Environment (EE) students are challenged to think big and toward the future, as they explore sustainable solutions to our energy needs and investigate the impact of energy on our lives and the world. They design and model alternative energy sources and evaluate options for reducing energy consumption.
Yearbook & Journalism:
Students who join Yearbook Production will use the software provided by our publishing company to produce the school yearbook. They will learn about the terminology and formatting of a yearbook, design and distribute creative advertisements, manage sales, interview students, take photos, caption images, and document the school, students, staff, sporting events, and extracurricular activities in order to preserve the memories for the 2023-2024 school year.
Band Performance Group 6th-8th Grade:
Emphasis is on further developing ensemble performance skills, rehearsal, and performance of intermediate-level band music. This ensemble is the performance group that plays in concerts.
Chorus 6th-8th Grade:
Chorus students will learn to use their vocal instruments to create a correct and pleasing singing sound. In addition to learning proper vocal production and technique, students will also learn music reading, sight-singing, and performance skills. Chorus also offers opportunities for students to develop team-building and leadership skills. This is a performance-based class. Participation in concert performances outside of regular class hours is required.
