Welcome to the BMO Card Activation Help Center. This site provides step-by-step guides and helpful information to assist BMO cardholders in activating their debit or credit card online.
bmo.com/activate is the official online card activation portal of BMO Bank of Montreal. New BMO debit and credit card holders use this page to activate their card quickly and securely without visiting a branch or calling customer service.
Visit bmo.com/activate, sign in to BMO Online Banking, select your new card, enter your card number, expiry date, and CVV, then click Activate. Your card will be ready in less than 5 minutes.
Card Number - 16-digit number on front.
Expiry Date - Month and year on card.
CVV - 3-digit number on back.
BMO Login - Username and password.
Internet - Stable WiFi or mobile data.
Open your browser and go to bmo.com/activate.
Enter your BMO card details if the activation page asks for them.
first of all it will ask you that "do you currently bank online with BMO?"
Select Yes or NO.
If you select Yes , then on the next steps it will ask you "Which credit card are you activating today?"
Select Personal or Business.
If you are activating through BMO Digital Banking, sign in to your BMO account.
From the Account Summary section, select your credit card.
Choose Manage Card.
Select Activate your card.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation.
If you are using the BMO Mobile Banking app, sign in, select the card you want to activate, tap Manage Account, and choose Activate my card.
For a BMO Corporate Card, you may need to enter the 16-digit card number, expiration date, and security code.
Once activation is complete, your BMO card should be ready to use for purchases, payments, and online transactions. Always use the official BMO website or app to avoid unofficial activation pages.
If bmo.com/activate is not working, the issue may be related to browser settings, expired session, wrong card details, or temporary BMO website problems. BMO also allows card activation through Digital Banking by selecting your credit card, choosing Manage Card, and then Activate your card.
Check that you are using the official BMO activation page.
Make sure your internet connection is stable.
Re-enter your card details carefully, including card number, expiry date, and security code if asked.
Clear your browser cache and cookies.
Try opening the page in private or incognito mode.
Use a different browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.
Try activating from another device, like a phone instead of a computer.
Disable VPN, ad blocker, or browser extensions for a few minutes.
If the page keeps showing an error, wait and try again later because BMO may be having a temporary system issue.
You can also activate through BMO Online Banking or the BMO Mobile Banking app. Sign in, select your credit card from the account summary, choose Manage Card, and select Activate your card.
For a BMO Corporate Card, use the corporate card activation page and enter the 16-digit card number, expiration date, and security code. If the page shows an issue, BMO says to try again or call the number on the back of the Corporate Card or in the card mailer.
If nothing works, contact BMO support. BMO lists 1-877-225-5266 for general contact in Canada, and BMO U.S. lists credit card support numbers for personal and business card assistance.
