Research Interest

Enzymes are essential and vital to life on earth. They are widely applied to various industrial applications and processes including chemical manufacture, drug synthesis, bioprocessing and in food and beverage. The advent of Synthetic Biology and Chemical Biology provides us with new tools and excellent opportunities to exploit and design of novel industrial enzymes for specific reactions and thereby produce high-value products at lower costs and in most environmentally friendly means.

We are interested in gaining deeper understanding of biocatalysts and to use this information to drive novel Biotech and Industrial applications. Our work is highly interdisciplinary and we have a broad interest to integrate biocatalysts with chemo-catalytic reactions. Within that aim we combine different aspects and research tools available from the fields of Synthetic Biology, Enzymology, Structural Biology, Biocatalysis, Medicinal Chemistry and Organocatalysis.
