To foster creativity, we must center the student and create learning environments where students feel safe and where they can meaningfully engage in novel ways, rather than being constrained by limited notions and measures of student success. See how I have tried to incorporate creativity into virtual learning. I am looking forward to moving to an in person learning environment where there will be more space and time for meaningfully incorporating creativity into my teaching praxis.
Check out some of the ways I have brought creativity in my virtual classroom. I leveraged novel instructional technologies to create continual spaces for creativity online in an environment where not all students may not have the resources at home. Creativity isn't just artistic expression but also the ability to step outside the box and imagine problems and solutions in new ways. In my classes I also provide ample space for students to develop their creative and critical thinking skills. Check out my page on critical-thinking to learn more.
I collaborated with students in the Differentiated Instruction course to design a lesson according to the UDL model. In this lesson, students learn about different ways to express themselves through examining the work of Kehinde Wiley.
