To be an effective educator I need to be committed to collaborating and learning from my colleagues and students.
I will proactively reach within and beyond my close network to seek feedback, new resources, and support when necessary. Only through sharing ideas and getting critical feedback can I grow as an educator. I will pursue formal and informal feedback from more experienced teachers and staff as well as from students themselves. Having a growth mind-set is a value I want to instill in students so I will model it in my own teaching practice. I will strive to work productively and equitably in ways that value others in a variety of educational settings. Please take a look at the projects below that highlight my ability to collaborate with fellow credential candidates and my supervising teacher. My hope is to promote collaboration skills in my future students.
Dominican University has provided me with ample opportunities to hone my collaborative skills. Take a look at some of the projects and presentations I collaborated on with fellow credential candidates.
In this slideshow, I collaborated with undergraduates and fellow credential candidates to research and outline how to make a positive learning environment for English Learners using the UDL framework.
It is vital that students learn collaborative skills so they can thrive in all areas of their lives. I create ample opportunities for students to work across lines of difference and in a variety of settings so they can develop this important 21st century skill. I integrate partner and group work almost everyday in my classes, giving students plenty of practice collaborating in a variety of settings, about diverse topics, and on multiple platforms. I remind students of our classroom norms and provide models and sentence starters to facilitate their collaboration skills.
Throughout my time at Dominican University I had the wonderful opportunity to observe and reflect on the teaching practices of more experienced educators. These observations and reflections have helped grow me as an educator. I am so thankful to those teachers who were willing to open up their classrooms to me during such a difficult year. Take a look at my reflections and observations about the diverse ways teachers engage and support students in learning and assess student learning while creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning.
