Teachers who aspire to improve their teaching should constantly look for a book that can explain and summarize the philosophy of learning in a simple manner without ambiguous jargon that distracts the unmotivated readers.
I would like to share one of my favourite books which fulfils these criteria – simple, concise, straight to the point, well organized, and clearly written. The book, How Learning Works: 7 Research-based Principles for Smart Teaching is authored by faculties from Carnegie Mellon's Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence (S.A. Ambrose, M. Dipietro, M.C. Lovett, M.K. Norman).
When I visited the main author (Susan Ambrose) at Carnegie (she was the Director of Carnegie Mellon's Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence), she gave me a signed copy of the book. I've also purchased the ebook version for reading on my iPad.
I've also written a review of the book which was published 10 years ago in the Journal of Food Science Education. You can read it here.
If you are looking for ideas for learning activities that are cognitively engaging, look no further, this ebook is for you.
