Welcome to the third week of the course.
If you follow the learning path, you will reliably find out
what to expect next,
what assignments have to be completed by when,
what discussions you can take part in,
when you can take part in live lessons. T
The learning path is the central meeting point of the course.
We are inviting you to a learning experience where you at times
study self-directedly on your own and accomplish assignments
participate in lively asynchronous discussions
exchange learning experience with other participants and get feedback from the tutor
participate in live lessons in class or in groups moderated by your tutor
Set up a quiet place as your workplace with the necessary equipment.
Reserve daily time slots for autonomous learning
Add the live lessons and deadlines etc. to your agenda
Be well prepared for the live lessons.
Make your daily visit to the discussion board and leave your remarks. This exchange of ideas helps you to maintain motivation.
Do not hesitate to participate actively during the live lessons.
Store the Excel sheet for later consultation.
When we learn in a social context, we share our thinking, articulate our opinions, seek arguments for and against, question other opinions, seek compromise.
Only thanks to this cognitive processiCong can new concepts be integrated into our thinking and feeling.
Therefore we do not want to miss any opportunity to deepen the individual study through social learning processes.
So let's start with a first informal exchange
Attention: Only course participants have access to the forums.
The challenge of teaching online is to use some existing digital tools methodically and skilfully. The choice of e-tools is secondary and will vary from school to school. Using the chosen e-tools is not more difficult than using a word processor. As an online teacher, your methodical and psychological skills are the most important factor for success.
You miss the direct contact with the class. Teaching at a distance feels like flying blind. You lack the verbal and nonverbal feedback from the class. You're worried, whether the learners are still with you, whether the class works or whether individuals fall behind
You must ask for feedback periodically. As an experienced teacher you are not aware of how many nuances you perceive in the classroom. The feedback is immediate and you are constantly reacting to interesting inputs, disturbances, emerging misunderstandings, mood swings, fatigue, etc. That is why you have to ask for specific feedback from learners in online lessons: e.g.
o Request confirmation that the mail has been read.
o Occasional telephone contact
o Check your learning progress with online quiz.
o Link learning assignments with a date and an expected result.
o Make live lessons as interactive as possible.
Set aside time in your weekly schedule for studying.
Structure your document file system intelligently.
Consult the learning path and plan the work of the next days.
Avoid falling behind by procrastinating.
Prepare your equipment (Smartphone, Notebook, Internet access)
Participate actively during live lessons.
Ask questions if concepts seem to be confusing.
Exchange ideas and experiences with fellow learners by engaging in online discussions.
Respond on ideas and approaches of other learners.
Use every opportunity to check your own learning progress. (formative tests, apply skills etc.
Invest a lot of effort to work on assignments, and reflect on the feedback of the tutor and others.
As an experienced teacher you know exactly how to address individual learners, groups or the whole class in the classroom and how to manage processes.
When teaching at a distance you will want to perform the same activities. In the virtual learning environment you need to think about how to use the available channels intelligently.
Study the document at the right:
Many schools use a Learming Management System (LMS) to deliver an online course, such as Moodle, Blackboard etc.
We are building the learning environment by integrating Google services in such a way as to offer the same funktionality.
The website (Google Sites) is the central information point. Documents are stored on Google Drive and discussions boards on Google Groups.
For synchronous communication in live lessons we use a video conferencing system such as (GoToMeeting, Zoom, Hangout etc.)
We address participants individually we use Google Mail.
All these tools are so neatly integrated so that using this learning environment is very easy for the learners. They work asynchronously with the website and eventually with the mail program, and synchronously with the conferencing system.
There are countless valid software options for each communication channel. The choice of the product is not decisive as long as the important features are offered.
Study the document on the right
Step 1
We decide, how many houres self-directed online Learning and how many Live-Lessons LL or Individual Mentoring IM sessions should be offered per week.
Step 2
Then we decide how many weeks the course will last.
Step 3
Create a time grid with WEEKS as columns and the communication channels as rows
Step 4
Take Post-it notes for activities, documents, assignments and fill them into corresponding cells
Step 5
Verify logical structure of learning processes, check the comprehensiveness of the course contentand and adjust students’ workload-
Step 6
Create a holistic learning experience where every learning activity relates to other elements of the course.
Resulting outline of your course
The following script serves you and your team as a planning tool during the entire production process. Now the work can be organized in a collaborative way. Someone will create the website, others will collect and design the learning resources, and finally all the pieces will be put together into a complex puzzle.
It will be delivered severals times
Most leaning resources of theis successful course are availabe in electronic form
Attention: Only course participants have access to the forums.
You can store all self-created or collected learning resources in Google Drive like tests (Google forms), slide shows, documents, spreadsheets etc.
Whenever you want the participants to use one of the learning resources, you can offer it in the learning path on your website.
It you want to launch a discussion in your class you should use a discussion board. It is way more effective to have a thematic discussion in a discussion board than with mails or in a chat.
Learners don't have to search for the discussion platform, because you can comfortably integrate it into the learning path on your web-site.
Share your experience in the discussion thread 1.4
