BLC @ TSS

What is the Believe Leadership Course?

The Believe Leadership Course (commonly referred to as the BLC) is an up and coming extracurricular at Thorold - first started in the spring of 2021 - and it is a division of the Believe Initiative, founded by Sarah Wells. The BLC aims to teach important leadership skills, as well as entrepreneurial and mental wellness skills, so that the students of TSS can create change in their communities.

Over a course of approximately 9-weeks (7 learning sessions), students build organizations or "Passion Projects" that are then launched to the community during a fair open to students and families in the area. Not only is it a great way to gain volunteer hours and experience, students from all over Canada have walked away from the course having changed the world.

Understanding Equity Part 1

SPOTLIGHT PROJECT

The winner of our first ever cohort of the BLC was Anika Burton, with her project "Understanding Equity" - and it's one that's worthwhile to look through thoroughly. She took an issue that has been affecting our world, and made an informative slideshow in the hopes that she can bring it into the curriculum of schools in the Niagara Region.

Honorable mentions

Kids Calls Niagara

Kids Calls Niagara is a youth organization that is a great way for kids to safely build connections with others through video calls on Zoom. This free program includes safe, supervised themed weekly video calls for children to connect with others, develop new interests, and celebrate their interests! There will be different age ranges (5-8 and 9-12) to help match up kids with other members around the same age. The best part? Your child doesn't have to be from Niagara or the DSBN to sign up. They accept kids from all around the world!!
