What is the Believe Initiative?
The Believe Initiative is an initiative founded by Canadian Olympic hurdler and world-class motivational speaker Sarah Wells to empower students across North America with resilience, self-belief, confidence, and leadership. The BLC operates under the Believe Initiative and is centered around the same mission, but in the form of an extracurricular club.
What is the time commitment of participating in the BLC?
The time commitment of the BLC is a combination of your Chapter’s sessions (usually 6 sessions), the time it takes to complete the short assignments that help guide you with your project, the time you spend working on your Passion Project, and your attendance at the Inspiration Fair. If you have sessions once a week, this would be a commitment of approximately 1.5 hours per week + whatever time you spend working on your project. But this will vary depending on your Chapter’s schedule.
The amount of time you spend on your project is completely up to you, but we encourage you to really put your heart into your project! Not only will it contribute to your community, but you will also benefit massively from the skills, knowledge, and connections you adopt during the process.
How many volunteer hours will I earn?
Volunteer hours earned are calculated by the total time spent in the weekly BLC Sessions (session length may differ for each Chapter) + the amount of time worked on your Passion Project + attendance at the Inspiration Fair. Typically, students will earn approximately 8 hours for attending Sessions and another 1-2 hours for the Inspiration Fair for a total of at least 10 volunteer hours + whatever time you spend working on your project outside of BLC sessions/meetings. But this will vary depending on your Chapter’s schedule.
A volunteer hour template will be shared by your Chapter Head for you to make a copy of. Please be honest about the time you record.
How will the program be run this cohort?
At this time, the answer is unknown, but we should have a better idea closer to the start of school, so keep an eye out for more information after the DSBN makes its announcement in late August!!
Who can I contact for help?
Head over to the contact page for specific chapter head emails - in addition, after you apply, you will be entered into our Messenger group chat (which will be used for all important announcements). If anything pressing is required, you can also use that for communication purposes.
