Water shortage and Poor Water Infrastructure - There is a serious water shortage in the village, with the community sometimes going for up to three weeks without water. The quality of the water itself needs attention.close to 80% of village taps are not working, either vandalised or just broken and unserviced. Our long term plan is to secure an alternative water source and reliable supply.
Kids with Disability- This is a centre run by one of our partners, Nkukise, to take care of children with disabilities, a challenge without proper support and resources. The aim is to secure the place with proper security gates, cameras and other resources to protect both the kids, their care givers and limited provisions they currently have. The centre desperately needs an upgrade of admin facilities including facilitating and communicating tools like PC’s and others critical aids for the children.
Care for the Aged - Another one of the partners, a dedicated lady who looks after about 100 pensioners, all of them staying alone without care. She provides basic care and and where the situation is a lot more dire, she literally provides full care including cooking, cleaning and washing the more demanding elderlies. It’s our wish to see her assisted with basic hygiene stuff like soap, laundry cleansers, anti septic solutions, bandages etc. Ideally, it would be great to provide daily meals to them as regularly as possible. The centre is also keen to start its own vegetable garden from which to feed the kids and sell excess produce to contribute towards doing affordable interventions.
Facilities for the local Early Learning Centre - A kind donor helped move these kids from a precast building into a decent building, complete with amenities for the needs of the young ones. The biggest challenge right now is the fencing of the facility, which cattle and donkeys often moving around there for grazing while creating a hazardous situation. The centre needs full fencing right round, with grass regularly cut and creation of more recreational facilities for the kids.
Village Cleanup and Restoration of Streets and Lights - Through years of neglect, the village is steadily returning back to the bush BaPhiring found it in, with streets completely unpassable, eroded by years of rains and grass grown to unacceptable heights, with snakes a regular menace and a danger to the community. The plan is secure petrol grass cutters and other tools to have regular volunteers cutting the grass and eradicating street wild bushes. We would also like to secure graders to assist in levelling the wide streets, which have become so narrow and can barely accommodate two cars and not accessible during rains.
