Barcelona, Spain is BEAUTIFUL!!! There are historical buildings and art structures everywhere you look. The details of the buildings are so remarkable. WKU placed me at a really nice accommodation that is very central. I am near numerous shops, boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Right next door to my dorm, there is a restaurant called “Coco Vail.” This just so happens to be an American restaurant that serves buffalo chicken wings, cheese sticks, nachos (all my favorites), etc. and also plays American football. How cool is that?! If I ever feel homesick, then this will be the place I go to “feel at home.” So far, I have eaten bread and olive oil all day, everyday. This is a very normal thing here. The atmosphere of this city is very mellow. I feel like it is super laidback and the people aren’t as concerned with being late or concerned with others as we are back home.
The views from the school are absolutely breathtaking. The school is on a hill so you can can see the entire city and the ocean. My first day at the school I was very impressed with the students' manners and their schoolwork. They write in cursive for everything, the content is not stretched out over multiple days (it is taught one day then onto something else), and they learn three languages at the school. Some even learn additional languages at home like French or Chinese. That is insane!! I was shocked how self-disciplined the students are, as well. The students know exactly what to do before being told and transition into the classes independently. There is much more freedom given to the students which allows them to be more responsible for their learning. I have been placed with a 6th grade class and I have already learned all of their names. Let me remind you, the names here are not as easy to pick up on as they are in America. My students were thrilled to have a Kentucky girl in their class. Their first question was, “Do you eat KFC?” Of course I replied with, “I love fried chicken!” They don’t do salt or buffalo sauce like we do back home and they don't have Diet Mt. Dew, but everything else is amazing!
This weekend we will be traveling to Nice, France! I am so excited to visit the country of France and learn all things French!
