17/04/23: Before we started filming the main scenes, we needed to film the security camera footage that will be shown on a monitor in the scenes. We needed to film cam footage of a mysterious guy walking down a street and the mysterious getting out of car. We filmed on Penn Grove Road, which is on the street that I live, it was useful to shoot nearby because we used my mum's Range Rover for the the car shot. I acted as the mysterious guy, dressed in a dark grey hoodie and with blackout sunglasses. For the walking down the street, we filmed right outside my house so we could get a camera shot from one of the bedroom windows for an overhead shot, as well as using the ring doorbell footage for another angle. For the getting out of the car scene, we shot it on an open, quiet road so that no vehicles or pedestrians would get in shot, as well as being a safer location than filming on a busy road. Charlie will edit the footage we have shot today by adding a security camera filter and an effect that will zoom in on the mysterious guy to state "the target has been located."
18/04/23: We continued to shoot scenes that were located near me, on Penn Grove Road. This included part of the morning chase scene on Frank Owen Court. On this street there is a hill area, an open grass area and an alleyway, which seemed like the ideal location for the scene; it isn't just a flat area, the camera has to follow an interesting route before the finale, creating a rise in suspense that leads up to the action. In the planning stage of this scene, an alleyway came to mind when envisioning what the scene would look like so that is why we first decided on this location. Alleyways are mysterious and eerie, in movies they are associated as a place where criminal activity takes place. We also filmed part of the Jax training, which we shot at my house because there is a gym room, ideal for the boxing training scene. We were only able to film part of it because the camera ran out of storage. Therefore, I uploaded what we filmed so far on my computer, in order to free up storage for tomorrow.
19/04/23: We shot the rest of the Jax boxing training scene, consisting of clips of Jax shadow boxing, doing press ups and crunches, and going on the electric bike. We then shot the Stevie and Jax dancing in the street scenes on two different streets; Audley Crescent for Stevie and Penn Grove Road for Jax. To film the scenes we played a loud the music that will be used for the dance. Stevie danced to Stayin' Alive by Bee Gees because the character is funky and inspired by the 80s. Jax air guitared to Love Buzz by Nirvana to compliment his rock inspired style. The dance scenes are used to transition from Stevie talking to the Chief to Jax going in to the Chief's office. After filming that scene, we decided to go up to college to film the torture scene, located in the back room of the Digital Futures floor. The back room looks tatty; scruffy walls and flooring, and faded paint. It's a large, open room that looks similar to a private storage facility, often used in films for a place to hide illegal products and do criminal activity, making it a perfect room to use for a torture scene. We were able to get a classmate involved to play the hostage. In the room there were lots of arty items that we used for torture weapons and props; scissors, pins, red paint, ceramics, so there was pretty much everything we needed available to us. We brought along a pillow cover to be put over the hostage's head and a black lead to tie the hostage up. We made sure to be careful when using the items to ensure no one is injured. Then we went to Churchill Gardens, a 5 minute walk from college campus, to film an establishing shot for the Caliper base. At Churchill Gardens there is an abandoned, impressive, white building that we thought would look great for the exterior of the criminal mastermind's base. We did not use the interior of the building as that would be trespassing on the council's property. For the interior of the base, we will film in the drama studio at college, it is an open, dark room that will create an unwelcoming atmosphere, complimenting the villain's persona.
21/04/23: Today we shot the Chief scene in the photography suite. We got a friend, Jake, to act out as the Chief. He was able to get to college for around 11am so before he arrived, we decided to shoot the flashback of Stevie getting his blood test taken, which we wanted to also film in the photography suite. We set up in front of the window that had blue blinds, similar to those in a hospital, and positioned the professional lighting equipment using the three key method and used white light to create a hospital-like setting. When filming the Chief scene, we filmed in the storage room of the photography studio, which stores desks and chairs. We moved one of the two desks out to make enough room, and set up the room to look like an office. The room has a small window in it that looks out onto the rest of the photography studio, it has vertical blinds. I thought of an idea to create noir lighting by using this window and blind; I placed a light that shone through the window and shut the blinds slightly so only a bit of light got through, creating a venetian blind lighting effect. A light was also positioned in front of the Chief to soften the shadows. Jake, the Chief, was dressed in a suit and a fedora hat, with a cigar in his hand. We wanted the Chief to have a noir inspired style to make him look professional, stylistic and to give a hats off to the OG crime genre. We also wanted to film the title introduction of the film in the photography studio. We set up in front of the green screen, the idea is to cut around Stevie and Jax, the main characters, and have a solid colour back drop. They danced along to Stool Pigeon. The title introduction is inspired by the intro of the movie, Superbad. We also did a photoshoot of the characters, Stevie, Jax and the Chief, in front of the green screen.
24/04/23: At night we filmed Stevie's house mission at Charlie's address. I had a hunting rifle at home, unloaded, that I brought along to the film set, which would be a professional looking weapon for Stevie to use to create a realistic action scene. River brought a toy gun to be used as well. Charlie was dressed up as a henchman that fights River's character, Stevie. We were able to film the fight sequences that happened inside the house, starting from the hallway to the final fight in the kitchen. As it was at night and we wanted low key lighting, we used the upstairs light to softly illuminate the hallway, a flashlight for the route from the hallway to the kitchen and then decided to get Stevie to turn on the overhead light in the kitchen for the lighting for the finale fight, not having to worry about bad quality imagery if we solely relied on a flashlight. We have not completely finished this scene, we only filmed shots that were inside the house, so tomorrow night we will film the outside shots.
25/04/23: Today we filmed the Driver's House scene at my house, on Penn Grove Road. The plan was to have an apple crumble in the scene that the owner of the house is taking out of the oven when Stevie and Jax storm in. We decided on an apple crumble to symbolize the Applefest 2022 short video that we collaborated on. I had a chance to make the apple crumble on the Sunday. The driver, the owner of the house, was acted out by my mum (Nicola Jones). In the scene, we filmed the outside of the house, which is when Stevie and Jax arrive; Stevie assesses the area to see the best way to break in, whilst Jax takes a simpler approach by stomping the door down. Stevie and Jax interrogate the driver to understand why she was giving a lift to the mysterious guy, which allows them to get information on the location of the villain's base. After we finished filming that scene, we did the morning wakeup of the chase scene at River's house; Stevie and Jax getting ready for the mission that is set by their Chief. The scene shows the difference between the characters; Stevie is up and ready to go, whilst Jax is lazy and takes awhile to get ready, making him late for the mission. At night, we filmed the rest of Stevie's house mission. This included the fights between the henchmen leading up to Stevie entering the house. One was shot at a distance, Stevie sniping a henchman. The other was a close up of Stevie shooting the henchman and then retrieving the keys to the house. We shot near street lamps to light up the scene.
26/04/23: For the laboratory scene we went to film at college as it's all painted white, there are equipment available to use that will help replicate the lab the best we can; white coats, files, white background and a key card door access to make the lab appear to have high security, highlighting how skillful Stevie and Jax are to get away with being undercover. We used the Digital Futures floor for the part where the spies enter the lab using the key card door access and when they look around for Stevie's medical records and the blood tests that he sends to the lab, which appear to have been stolen. We put empty files on a white table to show the records have been stolen. The next part of the scene was to film the lab security control room, where Stevie and Jax investigate the security camera footage to see if they noticed anything suspicious. We used the IT room for this scene as there are rows of monitors that will help to replicate a high tech room.
28/04/23: We decided to film the Caliper base scene on a Friday as this is the most quiet day at college, meaning we won't get in the way of students and they won't interfere with our filming. We filmed the scene in the drama studio, which is an open and completely black room, creating an ominous atmosphere to make the Masked Man appear mysterious and intimidating. It also helped us to easily achieve low key lighting. There was equipment in the room that really helped to achieve the look of the scene. An old-fashioned chair, already in the room, that was ideal to use for the Masked Man to sit on, waiting for the arrival of the spies. A whiteboard to showcase the Masked Man's evil clone plan. An electric whiteboard to put a backdrop of DNA behind the Masked Man when he refers to taking the DNA of the spies to replicate them. Afterwards, we filmed the Masked Man blood test theft in the Digital Futures room, where we filmed the laboratory scene. I brought a COVID19 test to be used as a blood test tube and filled it up with dark red paint. The shot was a close up of the blood test being taken from its holder.
01/05/23: As it was a bank holiday, my mum wasn't working so we could use the office to film the Clint scenes. We blocked out the natural light from the windows by using the blind and used artificial light to create a more tech savvy room. We used light from the desk lamp and some overhead lighting. There are two monitors on the desk, we used one to show the security cam footage and the other to show a hacker typer screen. Clint is an agent handler that tracks down targets and obtains information by hacking into security camera footage to locate the target's whereabouts, as well as tracking down the address of the character, the Driver, by tracing the number plate of the car. To show this, on 17/04/23, we filmed security camera footage and edited a cam filter over it, which we used for this scene and played it on the monitor. The hacker typer screen makes it look like Clint is coding to make him appear like a professional intelligence officer. The web address for the hacker typer is Hacker Typer : Fake Coding & Hacker Simulator To Prank & Troll Your Friends
As we were at my house, we thought we could film the barber scene as well, it's a flashback for when the Masked Man cuts Jax's hair to retrieve his DNA. We used the professional hairstyling kit that I already had at home, it included an apron, scissors, comb, hair clip and shaver. We set up in my bedroom, which had a leather chair that would look nice for the scene. We used the natural lighting from the skylights and a lamp for a soft warm light. At night, we went to River's house to film the Tokyo mission. We used the stairwell of the apartment building, which still had scaffolding left from when the builders worked on the project that gave a downtown Tokyo aesthetic. Charlie dressed up as a Tokyo henchman, kitted up in a futuristic outfit. River brought props knives and a toy gun for the scene. The building is well lit so lighting is no issue. The scene follows Stevie walking up the staircase of the building to the top floor where he meets the henchman, who surprise attacks him. They continue to fight in an intense action sequence. We choreographed the scene based around the use of the prop knives.
02/05/23: In the day we filmed the aerobics training scene at River's. River got his screen projector out to display the 80s aerobics video that the character, Stevie, dances along to. We filmed a variety of shots; close up, tracking, shot of the video and an overhead shot from the balcony above the living room. We used natural lighting coming in from the windows. River, who plays Stevie, dressed up in workout clothes; a white vest and neon yellow shorts to correlate with the funky style that Stevie has. At night we went to Tupsley Quarry to film the woods mission that Jax takes on. Before we arrived at the woods, we went to the shop to buy a watermelon, which we used for the head crushing scene, we made sure it was soft enough to be easily crushed. We also brought along a variety of torches to light up the woods, prop knives and a nunchaku for the weapons. One torch had a handle on it so we hung it up on a tree branch so we didn't need to worry about holding it. River played as the henchman that Charlie's character, Jax, fights. The scene consisted of fight sequences between multiple henchmen, starting off with an easy battle and then increasing in difficulty when fighting the final boss, who gets his head crushed, with the use of the watermelon.
Charlie used a sample street video. In Premiere Pro, he added a timecode, blinds, second camera view a monochrome grey-blue filter to design the security cam footage. We will use this design for our film. There are a quite a few scenes where the characters look at security cam footage.

Tester for 'Stool Pigeon' film introduction. Charlie, River and I filmed the James Bond gun draw and Stevie putting his headphones on. The black and white video was taken from Charlie's noir short film that he stars in, it was useful to edit in because Charlie will be starring as Jax. River edited the footage together in Premiere Pro. The James Bond gun barrel sequence will be used as a hats off to the franchise. The freeze frame of the characters will introduce the characters to the audience.

Edited by Charlie. Before and after of a sample image when creating a comic book look in Adobe Photoshop. The design will be used for our comic book filter freeze frame shot at the end of the film, when Stevie and Jax are running away from their clones.
Further editing the comic book freeze frame to see what the ending of the film could look like, Charlie edited the transition of zooming out of Stevie and Jax to reveal the film scenes as a part of a comic book. At the end of the film, Stevie and Jax are running from their clones and then the shot freezes with a transition to them in a comic book, with the caption 'To be Continued...'

Charlie, River and I went to the photography studio to record a test footage of the gun shots. River edited the gun shot special effects in Premiere Pro. This has helped to prepare us for the editing stage to make the gun shots look realistic in our film.
