Busharium - Post Mortem
What was something you feel you learned more about on this project?
Producing. In terms of team management and seeing how people are going, scheduling tasks and hours is so much better in contrast to last year's end of year project. While still not perfect, I got a lot of things right, like doing a weekly reflection was an awesome way for people to catch up and chat, as well as doing weekly sprints to see where we should be at each week.
Was there some aspect to your work or processes that you would like to have done better on the project?
100% I would jump on doing a proper art pipeline asap. I should have given Phoenix the space sooner to do the shaders for the game. The weekly sprints worked well for the designers and programmer, but wasn’t the best application for the artists because of iteration and how long it takes for them to do things. Also hack n plan clearly wasn’t the best application, and we didn’t really need it in the end. I would replace this with some other system. Probably commit even harder to weekly feedback sessions, maybe even make it daily. I feel like the daily scrum and the weekly feedback for the project generally covered everything done.
What would you like to improve about your skills and approach in the future, for your portfolio, or general personal improvement?
Despite how good I felt my communication was with the team, it can be better. Like as I mentioned with the art pipeline, that could have totally been much better, and I should have spent more time with the artists earlier on to set this up instead of playing hard and fast with assets and implementation. It’s also clear the weekly sprints weren’t the best option to help give them clear deliverables so I should have had that conversation with them too.
