"If you’re going to cover Alanis Morisette, then you can’t do any better than the version of Uninvited by Black Flak and the Nightmare Fighters.  Their version is epic, injecting a Post Rock sensibility and modern atmospheric indie appeal.  The result is glorious.  A rich alteration of the arrangement, it’s only as good as the vocalists contribution.  She steals the show with scorn and attitude to match her perfect pitch.  Collectively a solid re-imagination that gives this classic a new cinematic reverence."

"The song opens with haunting piano, stretching out a minute longer than the original before the vocals come in. The band’s lead singer is Kate Hoffmeister, and her voice, which is comparable to Alanis Morissette’s, is hard hitting, emotive, and angsty. At one point in the track she lets out a growly scream and it hits. The lyrics cut just as deep in this cover as they do in the original.

The band has a great sense of dynamic, this is clear in this cover as well as with the their other releases. They know when to pull back and allow space, and they know when to get loud. They really bring the song into the post-rock territory that they typically work with. It’s a great cover and we highly recommend you check it out if a post-rock take on a classic Alanis Morisette song sounds up your alley."

Concert review:

"...Black Flak and the Nightmare Fighters closed the show and took us to a decidedly darker place, both sonically and visually, with a heavy dose of distortion and mood lighting...they brought about a drastic, though certainly not unwelcome, change of pace with an immersive musical experience, complete with cryptic samples, sound effects, and sirens. This is music fit for an apocalypse; music better lived-in for a time than merely listened to.
