About The Book............

Electronic computers first started their journey in the late 1950s. Resources of computers at that time were very limited and they in spite of resulted additional impetus for devising efficient computer algorithms as the computer engineers, scientists, researchers started to pay attention towards the betterment of program performances. The field of computer algorithms is being flourished since then.

This book provides a comprehensive opening to the study of computer algorithms in the most acceptable form. Most of the algorithms have been discussed in considerable depth keeping in mind the readers at all levels. All the algorithm design techniques have been explained simply and shown their utility in the solution to many problems.

Although the main intention of the book is to be familiar with algorithm design techniques, it also places interest in another major component- the analysis of algorithms. All the algorithms have been analyzed in detail. Since efficiency is the desired algorithm design criterion, I carefully analyze the running times of all the algorithms. Being my focus is on practical applications of the design techniques I have tried to illustrate each technique by straightforward as much as possible and use pseudocode similar to the syntax of any structured programming languages such that anyone can write a program of the correspondence.

This new edition is a major revision of the book that brings it fully up to date, expands the coverage, and includes numerous improvements to the original material. The readers have benefitted from using the first edition as a textbook. In writing this preface to the second edition it is assumed that the readers have read the original preface. In the first edition of this book, I have received numerous email messages and letters from readers commenting on the book and suggesting how it could be improved. Therefore, the changes reflect my own experiences in using the book, as well as suggestions received from readers. With the aid of all this information, I have completely revised the book. The most obvious changes in this second edition are the

addition of six new chapters.
