Objectives

1: Intensification of Scientific and Technological Excellence of FFUL and IOCCP-BAS Institutions and Involved Team Members

Contribute to access new research avenues and to accelerate the discovery of new scaffolds for specific diseases under investigation at FFUL and IOCCP-BAS. The Twinning partners of Biomass4Synthons have outstanding curricula and skill, and we intend to inject the scientific staff from FFUL and IOCCP-BAS into these current and robust investigations through on-site training and staff exchanges.

2: Strengthening the Knowledge and Training Expertise of Young Researchers

Motivate, stimulate, and inspire FFUL and IOCCP-BAS’s younger researchers through training and mentoring actions that further influence the non-academic partners and the research community. We will benefit from the skills and knowledge of the partnering organizations in the domains of entrepreneurship, advanced organic synthetic methodologies, green chemistry, photoactivation, electron transfer processes, design of flow reactor devices and automation.

3: Reinforcement of the Industry Sector of the Two Widening Countries and Commitment in Increasing the Scientific Awareness of the Civil Society

The engagement of the non-academic partners SPARTAX CHEM (start-up company) and BLC3 will facilitate the dissemination of the scientific achievements and training expertise into the widening regions of Portugal and Bulgaria. In addition, a scientific and innovative enhancement at the regional and national level by dissemination and communication of the results in meetings, involving the R&D regional and national communities by building upon the extensive experience of the partnering institutions during public engagements. We intend to strengthen the confidence of the public through engagement activities and divulgation of real, clear and simple information on the project topic.

4: Reinforcement of FFUL and IOCCP-BAS Institutions and Involved Team Members Competitiveness

Increased participation in international collaborative projects in the design of Biomass4Synthons by integration of new and innovative organic synthetic methodologies tools. This action is expected to contribute to the strategic goal of raising the participation of FFUL and IOCCP-BAS researchers in the 2023 European projects, with a 2.5-fold gain in the number of funded project proposals by 2023. Sustained by the experience and the connections of our partnering institutions, network events will be organized with the participation of the project members, the scientific community and invited industry delegates. These actions are expected to promote a 30% increase in the total number of R&D contracts and/or collaboration among FFUL and IOCCP-BAS and SMEs industrial companies and start-ups.
