Congrats, NTHU iGEM Team! Heartfelt thanks to all the team members, Pandage won the team another award – CTCI Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (中技社科技獎學金). As representatives of the team, 黃品喆, 馬瑄妤, 歐陽元紫, 林奇葦, and 鄭駿宏 (as shown in the right picture) attended the awards ceremony at Taipei International Convention Center (TICC).
In addition to the iGEM Team, several NTHU students also received scholarship from different programs in CTCI Foundation (中技社). To show our support for the awardees, NTHU professors (as shown in the left picture, left to right: 陳鴻文/跨院博, 黃至正/精準醫療, and 嚴大任/材料) dressed sharp and attended the event.

Professor Huang gave a talk at the IEEE International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine & Engineering (IEEE NANOMED) in Honolulu, HI, USA. Several professors (from left: Tien-Chun Yang (TMU), Yu-Jui Fan (TMU), Chih-Cheng Huang (NTHU), Chung-Han Wu (NCHU), and Meng-Shiue Lee (NYCU)) came to share their progress in biochip/biosensing technology. Read more about it here.

To pave the way toward a theranositc framework, the NTHU-Taiwan Team developed the smart band-aid – Pandage that fights against infectious diseases and facilitates wound healing. From a high level, Pandage combines modules of 1) electrochemical biosensing, 2) drug release through hydrogel, and 3) probiotics-based wound healing.
Iric, as a primary PI, provided the team with technology strategy & consulting, while the whole project was solely worked out by these young brilliant talents. This versatile team embraced undergrads with multidisciplinary backgrounds, ranging from biomedical science, neuro science, bioengineering, physics, computer engineering, technology management, etc. Their efforts and sweat won them a silver medal this year, and Iric felt so privileged to take part in this energetic team. Please visit the following websites for more information: iGEM Team Wiki, Instagram, and Facebook.

Iric's proposal has been funded by the the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). BioMagNES Group will work on this three-year project to develop mobile health (mHealth) diagnostics and proteome biochip technology, addressing medical transformation in a point-of-use setting and bioanalytical challenges in single-cell targeted proteomics, respectively.

New Chapter @ NTHU
Iric will join the Precision Medicine (PMED) Program at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) as an Assistant Professor this summer. He will lead the BioMagNES Group to develop magneto-electronics for studying cancer theranostics, single-cell targeted proteomics, and magnetobiology. In Fall'23 Semester, he will be one of the instructors teaching "Introduction to Precision Medicine."
Please visit the PMED Program and NTHU Courses for more information.

Biotech Company Visit @ Takeda
San Diego, well-known for craft beer, all-year sunshine, and sprawling beaches, is the 3rd biggest biotech hub in USA and forms a major part of the Biotech Beach. With a focus on gastroenterology and neuroscience, Takeda Pharmaceuticals locates one of its global research centers in this bioscience’s hotbed. Dr. En-Ching Luo, an alum of UCSD and NTHU (College of Life Sciences, hooray!), works on RNA-based therapeutics and leverages small-molecule drug to fight against spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). This fall, Dr. Luo will visit College of Life Sciences and Medicine at NTHU, and we look forward to knowing more about her academic, industrial journeys.
Biotech Company Visit @ Nutcracker
Working in a startup is far more than just being cool since it necessitates creativity, passion, persistence, and insights! At Nutcracker Therapeutics, Dr. Ping-Wei Chen introduced his roles and the company's big picture – to pioneer multimodal RNA-based drug development using microfluidics. Obviously, the efforts on bioanalytical devices and manufacturing systems are revolutionizing biotech industry.
Biotech Company Visit @ illumina
Meet the industry giant! Illumina, the world-leading sequencing company, is located in SoCal and just 1.5 miles from UCSD. Thank Dr. Tony M. Yen for hosting a company tour. The automation systems are truly amazing, allowing a sequencing assay effortlessly done in the all-in-one station.

Coworking with Sofani and Gul, the review paper that features recent microchip-based efforts on single-cell proteomics was published in Lab on a Chip. [link]
Academia Sinica Fellowship Awarded
Iric was awarded (Regular) Postdoctoral Scholar Fellowship [一般院聘博後] from Academia Sinica. He will work with Dr. Hsiung-Lin Tu and SCellSE Lab to investigate single-cell immunodynamics and heterogeneity. Congratulations, Iric! [link] [link]
Ceremonial Commencement for Class'20
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! Two years ago, there was only an ONLINE commencement at UCSD. All we could do was pretend that we dressed up in doctoral (i.e., expensive) gowns and were hooded by the advisors VIRTUALLY.
This year, UCSD held an in-person ceremonial commencement for the Class of 2020. Proud to be a Triton, fiat lux!

Road to PhD Completed
Fiat lux. Iric officially received the Ph.D. degree from UCSD. Due to the pandemics, UCSD only held an ONLINE commencement this year. The upper right photo indicates how hard the road to PhD was, and finally the case was closed.
Congratulations, Dr. Huang
Fiat lux. Iric successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation titled "Magnetoresistive Devices for Biosensing Applications." The BioEE Group celebrated his achievements with a “chip cake!”
