The test blueprint for Biology is embedded in the Biology Test Specifications for the exam. It identifies the range and distribution of items and points, grouped into various categories. The specifications also provide specific guidelines for the development of all items used for the Biology test. This document is intended to be a resource not only for item writers and test designers, but for Ohio educators and other stakeholders who are interested in a deeper understanding of the test. The Biology blueprint organizes the content statements into the four major topics with a reporting category point range for each.

Online proctoring is available for this test. You may test remotely, including from home.

The Florida Department of Education and committees of experienced Florida educators developed and approved the specifications documents for Florida's End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments. Each specifications document defines the content and format of the assessment and the assessment's items for item writers and reviewers and indicates the alignment of items with the Florida Standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics assessments and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for the Science and Social Studies assessments. They also serve as a source of information for educators and the general public. To request a copy of the test item specifications for the assessments aligned to the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.), email Assessment@fldoe.org.

Placement into an introductory biology course is based on the student's score on the IMR Biology Placement Exam. Cutoff scores and placement recommendations are derived in collaboration with the School of Integrative Biology and are reviewed annually. The policies below apply to all students entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Summer 2023, Fall 2023, or Spring 2024.

Released tests are representative of the content and skills included in the Virginia SOL tests and are provided to assist in understanding the format of the tests and questions. Test item sets rather than full released tests are being provided for some SOL courses since the test item bank for those courses cannot support a full release. Raw score to scaled score tables cannot be provided for the test item sets because they do not represent full test forms. Likewise, a raw score to scaled score table cannot be provided for the MC/TEI component of the End-of-Course Writing test because it does not represent a full test form.

The online version of the tests or test item sets is no longer available since the test delivery software has changed. The PDF version will contain the answer key for all items in the test or test item set.

The PDF documents for tests and test item sets released in spring 2015 and spring 2014 show images of the test items as they appeared in an online test format. Due to variability in computer monitors, color in an item may appear differently on one monitor as compared to another.

Students are required to participate in the ILEARN Biology End-of-Course Assessment (ECA) upon completion of the high school biology course to fulfill a federal participation requirement. The ILEARN U.S. Government ECA is available per state legislation as an optional assessment for students upon completion of the high school U.S. Government course. A student may only have one test attempt for any given ILEARN assessment. There are no retest opportunities available for ILEARN assessments.

Each online ILEARN assessment consists of a computer-adaptive test segment and a performance task, and fixed-form test segments for social studies and U.S. Government. Fixed-form tests are not adaptive and available only as an accommodation for students with formal accommodations.

ILEARN measures the breadth of Indiana Academic Standards. This means that all standards are represented in the test blueprints, including content area literacy, media literacy, listening, and computer science standards and the item specifications. Indiana educator committees collaborated with content experts to create the ILEARN test blueprints and item specifications.

IDOE releases 10 items from each ILEARN grade-level assessment every year in accordance with Indiana Code. These items may be used as sample assessments to familiarize students with test content and format.

Indiana University Bloomington Evaluation Services and Testing (BEST) oversees the administration of the Biology Exemption Exam and Calculus Placement Exam in cooperation with the Departments of Biology and Mathematics respectively. These undergraduate-level exams are optional and should be taken only if the student does not have prior academic credit or credit-by-testing for Biology-E 111/E 112, Biology-L 111/L 112, and/or Math-M 211.

Each exam is one hour and is computer-based. New students may take the Biology Exemption Exam and the Calculus Placement Exam in scheduled testing sessions during New Student Orientation and Welcome Week in August. New students needing the Biology Exemption Exam for spring may take the exam by appointment prior to the beginning of the spring semester. The Calculus Placement Exam is not available for spring. Both exams are not available remotely.

Currently-enrolled students needing the Biology Exemption Exam should contact the Department of Biology Academic Advising Office to obtain permission to take the Biology Exemption Exam. Students who still need to take the Calculus Placement Exam should review the Department of Mathematics Calculus Placement and Exemption Exams website to identify alternate testing opportunities later in the semester.

Incoming freshman and transfer students as well as currently matriculated students in their first semester at IU Bloomington OR who have NOT yet completed 51 credit hours on the IU Bloomington campus, and who have been approved by the Department of Biology academic advising staff, are eligible to take the Biology Exemption Exam. Academic credit may be awarded for BIOL-E 111 and BIOL-E 112. Credit earned through testing will appear as BIOL-E 111 and BIOL-E 112, and students will earn a grade of S (Satisfactory). This credit satisfies the BIOL-L 111 and BIOL-L 112 course requirements for biology majors and other science majors, but it carries no lab credit. Credit through testing can also apply toward College of Arts and Sciences N&M distribution requirements. The exam covers the topics normally taught in BIOL-L 111 and BIOL-L 112.

The Biology exam covers material that is usually taught in a one-year college general biology course. The subject matter tested covers the broad field of the biological sciences, organized into three major areas: molecular and cellular biology, organismal biology, and population biology.

The exam gives approximately equal weight to these three areas. The exam contains approximately 115 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Some of these are pretest questions that will not be scored.

Required biology courses for students in the programs listed below have certain biology and chemistry prerequisites that must be met before you can register for those courses. These prerequisites can be met either through previous coursework at the high school and college level, or by achieving a score of at least 59 on the biology placement assessment and meeting the chemistry prerequisite requirement.

Each test yields a separate score. Because you may choose to take one or both UT Austin Tests for Credit in Biology, you may earn credit by examination for one or both of the introductory biology classes. UT Austin faculty in the School of Biological Sciences establish the criteria for credit-qualifying scores for both courses.

To be eligible for credit by examination for BIO 311C or 311D, you may not have attempted more than three semester hours of college credit (not including credit by examination) for courses in the life sciences (biology, botany, microbiology, and zoology) with either a passing or failing grade. 2351a5e196
