Inspiring Minds, Expanding Horizons: A Seminar on Higher Education and Research Opportunities in India and Abroad

On 3rd August 2025, the Department of Zoology, St. Joseph's Degree College, organized an inspiring and informative seminar titled "Beyond Boundaries: Exploring Higher Education and Research Opportunities in India and Abroad." The session was delivered by Dr. Jagadesh Ganda, Chief Operating Officer (COO), FABA, Hyderabad, a distinguished academic leader and innovation expert with extensive experience in biotechnology, entrepreneurship, and research ecosystem development.

The seminar aimed to create awareness among undergraduate students about the vast opportunities available for pursuing postgraduate studies, research careers, innovation, and entrepreneurship in India and abroad. Dr. Jagadesh Ganda provided valuable insights into the academic pathways leading to Master's, Ph.D., and postdoctoral research programmes at premier institutions across the globe. He emphasized the importance of selecting the right specialization based on individual interests, aptitude, and long-term career goals.

The resource person elaborated on admission procedures, national-level entrance examinations such as CUET-PG, GATE, CSIR-UGC NET, DBT-BET, and GAT-B, as well as fellowship opportunities offered by various funding agencies. He also highlighted internationally recognized scholarships, collaborative research programmes, and student exchange opportunities available in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Japan.

A major highlight of the session was the discussion on emerging interdisciplinary fields including Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Artificial Intelligence in Life Sciences, Precision Medicine, and Biomedical Research. Dr. Ganda emphasized the growing demand for skilled life science professionals and encouraged students to develop scientific curiosity, critical thinking, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to thrive in the global research landscape.

Drawing upon his rich professional experience in fostering innovation and biotechnology entrepreneurship through FABA (Federation of Asian Biotech Associations), Dr. Ganda inspired students to look beyond conventional career paths and explore opportunities in research, startups, technology commercialization, and innovation-driven enterprises. He encouraged students to actively participate in internships, research projects, conferences, and innovation challenges to strengthen their academic profiles and enhance their career prospects.

The interactive question-and-answer session enabled students to seek guidance on higher education, scholarships, research funding, career planning, entrepreneurship, and international admissions. The enthusiastic participation of students reflected their growing interest in advanced studies and research-oriented careers.
