Volunteer

 Serving Southeastern Wisconsin Counties.

Specializing in injured, recently adopted, and foster dogs.

Wolfina captured around 11pm in Milwaukee

Why become a volunteer with Billy's Posse, Inc?

Because it's been proven that we make a difference in dog's, and their family's, lives!

Because if you love dogs, you can help save them! Their families panic when their dogs go missing. They need our help and guidance to bring some structure back and help them see what needs to be done, and how, to safely get the lost pup home.

Help get them home to their families and off the dangerous streets, or away from those who they do not belong with. We help owners find their lost or stolen dogs.

What makes us special? Our volunteers!

If you have difficulty with the form, below, you can also access it on the service platform HERE.

Ways to volunteer:

There are so many ways to volunteer. Our volunteers help how and when they can, when they want to. We just ask that you have a few hours of availability each month. That does not mean you'll be scheduled for those hours. Dogs don't get loose, sightings don't come in, and they don't get trapped on our schedules. But there is almost always something you can help with, whether in the field or virtually. See below for opportunities to help our organization help the desperate owners needing our help.

Territories:

Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Walworth Counties ... availability of volunteers greatly by county and limits our abilities to help more in all counties ... especially out west.

Field Roles

Field Volunteer – a field volunteer helps in various ways. You may drive looking for tracks or sightings. You will hand out and post flyers, create and/or post road signs, educate the public on proper ways to deal with the missing dog and who to contact. And we always try to keep the owner positive and motivated. Sometimes, a stakeout is needed and we ask those willing to help to join in this. Field tasks can include on foot and driving work. These are the basic first steps in any search. They can even include crowd and traffic control when a dog is being chased or near busy roads or highways. We try make it as safe as possible for the dog.

All volunteers have the opportunity to become a Team Lead or Trapper. These volunteers head up the search, are the point person for the owners, direct other volunteers on what is needed to be done, set up trail cams and bait stations, set up traps, safely capture the dog.

Internet / Virtual Roles

Social Media Coordinator – We are looking for people who can post and update to our social media platforms. We need people familiar with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.  Meta Business Suite is used to easily work with both Facebook page and Instagram account but is not neccessary to help with these. These volunteers must be somewhat familiar with the platform they want to help with and be able to use both a phone and computer to help do postings daily. We can use one person per platform, or someone willing to do them all. Must also be creative.

Craigslist and Facebook Post Researcher – These volunteers help watch CL and FB for lost, found, stolen, and for sale posts. These are watched for any new cases, matches to current missing, found, or stolen dogs. Also watch for cold case postings.

Clerical Assistants – Maintaining contact lists for our lost dog alerts to vets/groomers/pet stores. This includes calling the business and getting permission to email them when a dog is missing so they can watch for them to show up at their business and have the owner number on hand. And it includes emailing the businesses the dog information when they go missing. Also help with volunteers lists, event contact lists, etc. Help with designing flyers and other documents needed by the Board, for searches, or for events. This team also helps with various clerical tasks needed by various leadership. These volunteers can help where they want with these tasks. Not everyone wants to do flyers. You don't have to, help how you can and where you want.

HotlineTake phone calls from our hotline via calls, texts and voicemails. Can also help with our Facebook messages from our page. Assess the guidance needed by owners or agencies. Give clear next steps for them to take and determine if our physical involvement is needed and how. Alert team to assistance needed for a case. Help start a search line of communication with team and owners. Google Voice is an app that is downloaded to your phone to take hotline calls/texts/voicemails. But can also be accessed on a computer and utilized that way if you have speakers and a microphone. Meta Business Suite is the easiest way to help with the Facebook messages but not neccessary to help with this.

Board Roles

Executive Director (ED) – In Training – Run the lot! Help make executive decisions on how the organization is run. This person must train on the team and have clerical and business skills and experience that will help them in this role. This role will start out as a field volunteer and will be taught over the course of at least a year to learn every aspect of our organization.

FILLED - Assistant Director (AD) – In Training – Helps the ED run the organization and is the right had to the ED. Sits on fundraising, events, financial, and other committees. This role will also be a yearlong training to learn all aspects of the organization and how they can help the ED.

Board roles will be assigned only after it is believed the person that has been in training is ready. Even if longer than a year. Both roles will take a person who has a drive and passion for the dogs and the success of the organization, and the time it needs to continue to be successful and grow. These are not faint of heart roles. The person for either role must have a 'must-do' attitude towards any tasks necessary for anything at hand. They are part of the organization in all aspects and know what needs to done to make things happen.
