For this assignment I edited and put together three images of my favorite college basketball player of all time, Ron Baker. These images were taken off the web. For the image on the left side, I used the saturation tool, the exposure tool, the color balance tool and the levels tool to make the image appear more vibrant. I also used the paintbrush tool to paint some of the edges of the image. Lastly I used a text box to put some text on the image. For the image in the middle, I used tools such as levels, exposure, vibrance, curves and posterize to make Ron appear like he is glowing in a sense. I also used the paintbrush tool to color around him and lastly I used the spot healing tool to reveal his teammate next to him in the image. For the last image on the far right, I used a water blue filter, the paintbrush tool to paint the side edges to make it look like a frame. I also used the exposure tool to change the lighting of the image. When I put all three images together, I made a canvas with 2x4 inches dimensions and I made the border yellow to follow Wichita State's team colors.
Beach Scene
For my Beach day scene, I had 10 different layers. Each layer had a different item that is on my beach. I used the magic wand tool to outline each item and then I copy and pasted each item onto the poster. I then scaled each item and some of them I rotated them and used the perspective tool to change the way it appeared. I also used a layer mask to blend the sky, weeds and sand together.
Netflix Poster
For my Netflix poster, the first thing I did was make a new file with dimensions of
8.5 width to 11 height and 150 resolution. I copy and pasted and then scale and centered
the Netflix logo. The next thing I did was copy and paste the image of the Earth onto the
file. I scaled it and moved it to the bottom of the poster. I did the same thing for the moon
and put that behind the Netflix logo by switching the order of the layers. I then included
the clouds and I duplicated the layer and switched the order to have two sets of them,
one in front of the Earth and one behind. After that I copy and pasted the image of the
stars onto the file. I scaled it and put it at the top of the file behind all of the other layers. I
used the brush tool and a layer mask to blend the black background with the stars in the
background. I added a drop shadow on the Netflix logo and I also made a copy layer of
the moon so I could apply the moon with an outer glow to make it appear a green-yellow
color
Layer Maks
For my layer masks assignment that I worked on independently, I used three different
photos relating to Batman and blended them together. I used these pictures because I was inspired
by the theatrical release of the new movie “The Batman” featuring Robert Pattinson. I first copied
and pasted each image onto my canvas. Next, I gave each layer a layer mask and used the brush
tool to blend all images together. After I blended each image the way I wanted, I usd editing tools
like hue/saturation, exposure, vibrance and color exposure to change the colors of the images to get
the colors I wanted. I also added a text layer typing “The Dark Knight” in the bat signal. The image
on the right is a silhouette of Batman in front of the moon, the second image is the bat signal on the
top and the third is a comic book image of Gotham City on the left.
For the two layer masks assignments we worked on in class, I was testing the different
effects of layer masks. For the Maine coastline image, I put together the three images. On layer
1 which is the sky, all I did was change the saturation to give it a greenish color. On layer 2 which
is the rocky/hilly landscape, I used a layer mask at the top of the layer. I also changed the
saturation to give the image a reddish color and I also changed the lighting to give it a brighter
look. Lastly, on my other two layers, I used layer masks to blend in both of the starry images and I
also used the brush tool to give the little pond on the bottom right a blue-ish and watery look. I also
changed the opacity on some layers to blend the stars in with the image.
For the birthday bash image, not a lot went into the process. The first thing and basically
the only thing I did was put a layer mask around the text so that it is visible in front of the
background.
Retouching
For this assignment I retouched four different images and placed them side by side within a
frame. The first thing I did for the mountain climber photo was use the spot healing brush to erase
the cracks and holes as well as the letters “DJ” from the mountain. Next I made a new layer and
used the brush tool to color the side of the mountain green. I then changed the color of the green by
changing the filter. After I completed improving the image, I put the before and after image next to
each other in a frame. I made the two images the same height and cropped the images by using the
rectangle selection tool. Finally, I made a canvas around the two images and made equal negative
space between them. I did the same steps for each before and after images when it came to putting
them on a frame.
The first thing I did for the crew photo was use the rectangle selection tool to remove the
ripple in the water in the back. Next, I used the pattern stamp tool to repair the image by coloring
in the button left of the image. Lastly I made a new layer and I put a frame around the image by
editing the canvas size and I put a pattern on the frame.
The first thing I did for the statue was use the pattern stamp tool to repair the image by
filling the bottom left of the image as well as removing the little white specs. I then made another
layer and used the brush tool to color the top of the statue blue. Then I changed the color from blue
to orange by editing the filter of the color. Lastly, I changed the saturation and color balance of the
image to make it look fresher.
The last image I retouched, a personal image of mine, the first thing I did was use the spot
healing brush tool to remove all the little marks. Then, I used the pattern stamp tool to blend the
red color on the bottom left of the image. Lastly, I used multiple adjustment tools like
hue/saturation, color balance, exposure and levels to make my image look not so outdated.
As I said earlier, in each image I edited, I did the same process in order to put the images
next to each other with equal negative space and a frame around it.
Poster Design
For this assignment, I decided to make a poster of my hero Pat Tillman. The first step in
this process was copying and pasting all the images I used onto one image. There were five total,
the three of Pat and the two sunset images in the background. Once I got all the images, I used the
image scale tool to change the sizes of them. Next, I used the background eraser tool to blend
in/delete the parts of each individual image that I did not need. This made it so that you only see
Pat and not the other stuff that was in the images. Next I used the type tool. I gave my poster a
heading, a subheading and a detailed paragraph dedicated to explaining why Pat Tillman is a hero
of mine. I center texted that paragraph as well. Following this, I created layer masks on three of the
layers. I then used the brush tool on each of these layer masks in order to blend in parts of the
images of Pat. For example, I used the tool on the helmet that is somewhat hidden behind the text
and I used it to give the other images of Pat a little fade effect. I wanted my poster to show how Pat
was a great football player but he was an even greater person.
