Elephant Design
For my elephant design, I mainly practiced my use with color swatches. I colored the elephant by using different color swatches, brushes and symbols. I colored the elephant by trying out different colors, I used two different brush designs to color the ears and lastly, I surrounded the elephant and covered my background with a variety of different symbols. This design was mainly me learning my way through illustrator and I simply tried all the different tools I learned to this point in this design.
Color Wheel
For this assignment the first step I did was make three perfect circles. I then used the line tool to make a line in the middle of the three circles. I then made another line at a 30° angle and clicked the copy button. Then I clicked command D to get duplicate lines all around the circles. I then aligned them horizontally and vertically. After that, I used the shape builder tool to make each box its own shape. Following this I got rid of the parts of the lines that were outside of the wheel. Lastly, I found an image of a color wheel from the internet and I used this to target colors and insert them into each different box.
Live Paint
For this assignment, I filled each singular shape/container with a color. To do this, I made each path closed and chose a color to fill in each shape. I did this for each and every container and I tried to use a wide variety of colors to make it look colorful. This assignment was not too complicated as I was simply doing the same two steps for each shape. It was just somewhat repetitive.
Pencil Design
For this assignment, I created a pencil. The first step was using the rectangle tool to create the body of the pencil. The second step was using the align tools to align the rectangles. The third step was using the selection tool to round the corners. Next I had to make the pencil point. For this, I first made the point by using the rectangle shape tool. Then I selected the bottom two points of the shape and clicked object, path and average to change it into a triangular shape. Finally, I used the ellipse tool, moved it over the pencil point shape and clicked divide. I used the align tool to put all the shapes together to create the pencil. The final step in creating the pencil was coloring in the different parts of it.
Image Trace
For the image trace assignment the first thing I did was click the image trace tab. One my image was black and white, I clicked the preset tab and clicked the three colors option. I tried some of the other options out but stuck with the three colors option. That's all I had to do for this assignment. I just had to find an image online and use those options to create a vector image.
Boxes
The first step in completing this assignment was setting up a grid containing 49 equally spaced 1-inch boxes. Next I filled each individual box with different shapes and patterns. I use the line tool and shape builder tools to do this. After that, I filled each box and shape with color. Once all the boxes had color and shapes in them, I removed all the strokes. Once I removed the strokes I removed any stray points. Next I clicked the group option. Then, I scaled the grouped design to 50%. Finally, I used the reflect tool to reflect both horizontally and vertically.
InfoGraphic
My infographic is about my favorite college basketball player of all time Ron Baker. I got
his statistics from basketball reference.com and goshockers.com. The first thing I did was make the
background of my infographic black and yellow because that is Wichita State’s program colors. I
used a color scheme and I used the line tool to make boxes for each individual statistic. I used
yellow lettering where the background was black for contrast and vice versa with the black
lettering on the yellow background. I used the myriad pro font to make it look professional. Before
I began working on my infographic, I used pinterest to spark some ideas. I looked at infographic
examples, especially ones that used the black and yellow color scheme. I also looked at images of
Ron Baker to see if I wanted to use any of those images. Lastly, I used the shape builder tool to
create stars on the bottom of the infographic because Ron Baker is an all star in my eyes.
