Origins
Welcome to our unit on Origins!
In this unit, we will investigate and understand scientific concepts related to the origin and evolution of the universe including:
- the Big Bang Theory
- Steady State Theory
- String Theory
By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Determine how matter emerged from the primeval fireball.
- Summarize the leading evolutionary models of the universe
- Explain how the age of the universe is determined and discuss the uncertainties involved with this determination.
Battlefield High School has just opened its new Wright-DegrasseTyson Planetarium and is looking for new planetarium shows. You are a member of a group of planetarium directors who have applied to be the sole supplier of presentations to this institution. To determine who gets the contract, Mrs. Wright, the hiring manager for the planetarium, has requested that potential directors create a show on origin theories of the universe. Luckily, you have a storage house of videos and articles that will help you investigate the most recent research regarding the leading theories to create a cutting-edge presentation. You also have the advantage of being able to contact other directors across the "country" to discuss pertinent issues with origin theories and ways to integrate these into your presentations.
