10 Commandments / Pentecost

How do we know 10 commandments / Torah were given on the Feast of Pentecost?

Keep in mind: Shavuot, Feast of Weeks, Pentecost, Counting of the Omer.......all the same Feast.

  • Leviticus 23: 15-22 We know Pentecost (feast of weeks) is 50 days after Passover as commanded.
  • Exodus 12:6 We know Passover happens during the 14th day of the 1st month (Abib / Nisan).
  • Exodus 16:1 "15th day of 2nd month"......(so, about 30 days later) Just showing the chapters are in chronological order.
  • Exodus 19:1 "3rd month, same day"
  • Exodus 19:11, 13, & 15 "be ready for the 3rd day" 3X this day is mentioned.....Important day!!
  • Exodus 20 10 commandments given by God directly to the people. (read end of chapter 19)
  • Jewish web page confirming giving of the Torah (1st 5 books of Moses) on Shavuot.

Math:

  • Jewish Calendars are based on moon phases. Google search "Days between full moon to full moon" = 29.5 days.
  • Abib / Nisan 14 until beginning of 2nd month = 16 days
  • 2nd month = 30 days
  • 3 days after the 1st day of 3rd month = 4 days
  • 16+30+3= 50 days.

But wait! There's more!

In Genesis 9 God gives Noah the 7 commandments for the world. (this is before Jews)

  • Genesis 7: “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. 2 Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, 3 and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth 4 Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights,
  • Genesis 8:4 seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. (during Feast of Tabernacles before there was a F of T)
  • Genesis 8:13 By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. (Most likely same day as Jesus birth date)Jesus birthday Nisan 1
  • Genesis 8: 14 By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry. ( Lyar 27 )
  • Genesis 8:18 So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives. 19 All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds—everything that moves on land—came out of the ark, one kind after another.
  • Genesis 8:20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21 The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans
  • Genesis 9 Please read all of ch. 9 to see the 1st set of commandments and covenant given to people. Genesis 9:12 ......a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth

Math:

  • Passover doesn't exist yet, but the 1st month does and Noah landed on Nisan 1. Passover is Nisan 14.
  • So with 30 days in a month, there are 16 days left until the second month
  • The 27th day of second month (vs. 14) + 16 days = 43 days
  • So Noah emptied all the animals in the ark, built an alter.....How long do you think that took? I'm guessing 7 days!! (Notice chapter 7:4, it took 7 days to load the ark.)
  • So 50 days after Nisan 14 I believe God sent the rainbow, enjoyed spending time with Noah "smelling the pleasing aroma" and giving Noah the wise teachings / commands / covenant.

Notice a common theme with Shavuot / Pentecost?

  • YHWH wants to spend time with us "walking in the garden in the cool of the afternoon"
  • YHWH shows us the importance during his appointed times with us
  • YHWH told us how to spend time with us verbally in Genesis (7 commands) and Exodus on stone (10 commands) on Pentecost in our spirit (Baptism of Holy Spirit....("his law in us")

Genesis 1:11 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Beginning of time.
