Resident Support
Since August 2021, I have been working as Resident Support in a retirement home. This has helped me develop my ability to stay aware of my surroundings and has enabled me to alter my speech as to support the resident's cognitive needs. It has also further developed my patience, my collaborative skills, my adaptability, and my empathy. These qualities will only benefit my career as a teacher.
Research Assistant
I am also a Research Assistant for two different university professors. Indeed, I started working for Dr. Sunny Lau, from Bishop's University, in September 2022. I began working for Dr. Geneviève Brisson, of the Université de Sherbrooke, in January 2023. I have been working on several projects involving the development of additional languages. Notably, I am a team member of For Researchers and Educators of English as an Additional Language (For REEAL). This group strives to promote active engagement between professionals and novices of the field of English as an Additional Language in hopes to develop their practices. This employment permits me to gain valuable information when it comes to my field of study. My involvement in the different projects develops my sense of efficacy, my professionalism, and my ability to work with different software programs.
As of March 2023, I have completed my 70-hour practicum at Bishop's University. The elementary levels in which I was placed ranged from grade 1 to grade 5 with a mix of regular and adaptive classes. This variety permitted me to gain a better understanding of each student's individual needs. It also enlarged my repertoire of strategies to help me assist and support my students either for academic, emotional, or behavioural issues.
